The Fair

Friday afternoon I went to the New York State Fair with some friends. It was only an hour drive from here, but I think the drive to and from Syracuse was definitely part of the fun. Road trips with friends are great, and we were a bunch of giggly girls going down the thruway.

I was surprised how big the fair actually was. I’d been to the Niagara County and Erie County fair as a kid and I thought the Erie County one was big. Went to the Ontario County fair here too, but that was pretty lame. The State Fair was huge and like walking through Darien Lake (6 Flags theme park). There was a ton to see, including all the livestock and farm animals, art exhibits, music performances, vendor like exhibits to walk through and of course all the sights of rides and smells of fair food. There were even shuttle buses to take people from the parking lots over to the fairgrounds.

All sorts of interesting characters to be seen as well, from the tattooed lady who shoved her cell phone and cash into her cleavage to the crazy church outside the fair shouting fire and brimstone at passer byers. Which, by the way I was completely offended by even though apparently we believe some of the same things. Seriously guys, not cool. All the kids dressed in their overalls and cowboy hats in the livestock area were cute though. And the mix of definitely-city-people with definitely-country-people was kind of cool too.

Well worth going, it was fun even if we were cheap and didn’t do any rides ’cause the Ferris Wheel cost $4 a pop!

Ooh, Andy’s parents just arrived – visiting for the afternoon from Lockport. Byes!
