Happy holidays from the Honeckers

by Heather | 1 Comment

Christmas Eve day the kids and I volunteered at our town’s Community Support Shoppe while Andy was at work. We greeted people as they picked out free toys, clothes, housewares and lots of food! Our church helped with the free give away and it was great to just love on people. Afterwards we delivered cookies and jam to neighbors. And that evening we headed to the candle light service at church. Ben brought his battery operated flashlight candle he’d picked up at the Support Shoppe :)

We ended up having a white Christmas after all as it’s been snowing the past two days. Just enough to cover the grass but not make roads horrible.

Christmas morning before the kids were unleashed. Everyone actually slept in until 8, it was perfect! I knew we’d get there some day!
PC250715sm

All smiles.
PC250718sm

We read the Christmas story from Luke 2, opened stockings and then the kids started in on the presents.
PC250734sm

Lamest parents ever…Cassidy received a booster “big kid” seat. She was SO excited though, haha!
PC250756sm

Jack was not as excited and just wanted breakfast.
PC250730sm

Kids got a few combined gifts like a set of magnatiles.
PC250757sm

They’d also picked out a few gifts for daddy at the Support Shoppe. These included Christmas bracelets, tacky ornaments and a USB game controller for a windows 98 computer :D

When you’re an adult and order your own Christmas presents, you act surprised when you open them Christmas morning!
PC250744sm

I was surprised by this awesome industrial desk lamp Andy made me. He’d been super sneaky working on it the past few weeks. The LED “filament” is all twisty and neat too.
PC250761sm

Another present, I love stormtroopers!
PC250797sm

Cassidy got to work building a magnatile castle.
PC250764sm

And Ben spent some time with his new legos.
PC250766sm

Ben’s big present was a Nintendo DS. It’s his “upgrade” from the Leap Frog video game he’s kind of outgrown.
PC250788sm

Snuggly Christmas Colby during our Star Wars movie marathon. We got to stay home in our pajamas all day and it’s been awesome to just relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Merry Christmas!

Mother’s Day

by Heather | 0 comments

Today we met my mom, Paul, Kate, Brielle and Elloree at Kelkenberg Farm in Clarence. I was doing updates on their website and saw they hosted a Mother’s Day event. I told Andy *that’s* what I wanted to do for Mother’s Day :)

We met Charlene the owner for the first time too (we had never met her in person before).
P5138310sm

Our first activity was the wagon hay ride.
P5138309sm

We rode around the farm, through the woods and even past a cemetery. It was here Cassidy exclaimed “That’s where zombies live!”
P5138328sm

Handsome fellas!
P5138345sm

Next, the kids picked their favorite colors and got to make jump ropes.
P5138355sm

Ben took his job very seriously.
P5138357sm

Then there were the ducky races!
P5138366sm

The gentlemen (minus Justin who had to work).
P5138416sm

Brielle and Nonna watched the kids make their jump ropes.
P5138359sm

Elloree snuggled with Kate for a bit.
P5138297sm

Cutest matching ladies!
P5138302sm

We headed into the barn to meet some of the animals. Kelkenberg farm makes their own honey and these were some of their bees. I’m so fascinated by the intricacies of bees, but it’s definitely too time consuming a hobby for me right now.
P5138376sm

Bunnies!
P5138444sm

Cute little baby.
P5138369sm

Fuzzy poof.
P5138374sm

Baby whose mama is a dairy cow on the farm.
P5138381sm

These two farm dogs were the sweetest. The white one had flopped over to get belly rubs from kids and the black one trotted over to say hello too.
P5138364sm

Surprise, Ben found a cat…
P5138371sm

Love my little beasties :)
P5138391sm

We saw some turkeys in the next barn.
P5138395sm

The tom enjoyed strutting about.
P5138397sm

Elloree kept saying “Turkey!” It was really cute.
P5138400sm

There was a huge sandbox the kids could play in too.
P5138406sm

And then they each got a pony ride.
P5138409sm

Ben was a little unsure (his equine interactions can be counted on one hand).
P5138418sm

Thanks for the photo, Paul!

We had a delicious picnic lunch including “Kelkenburgers” made from their own angus beef.
P5138427sm

Kids exploring the cracked corn after lunch.
P5138452sm

And then lawn games before we headed home.
P5138436sm

Fun with Poppy.
P5138437sm

I’m so glad Paul got this photo too, I didn’t get any others with myself and the kids. It was such a fun morning spent with my people, I’m so happy it worked out!

Happy Mother’s Day. Humbled I get to be called “mama” by Ben and Cassidy. Thankful I could share the day with my mom! Missing my step mom Leslie and mother in law Judy this year. Overall it was such a lovely day :)

Baby chicks

by Heather | 1 Comment

Cassidy’s friend from school got baby chicks last week! They invited us over to meet them, 15 in all. The group included Welsumer (will lay dark brown eggs), Brown Leghorn (white eggs) and Olive Eggers (olive green eggs). Miranda and her mom showed Cassidy how to hold the chicks and that they like to snuggle up to feel warm and safe. The girls and “the girls” were just the cutest!

Miranda’s brother Garrett was playing mother hen. Ben had a full day of school so he didn’t get to meet them until we popped over a week later.

So sweet!

I have lofty plans for chicks next year (after all, why else would you buy a house in the country?) I really want to get the garden up this year and deal with some other projects before jumping into chickens though. Looking forward to learning more about them!

Christmas and a cat rescue

by Heather | 1 Comment

We had our Christmas get together with my mom and Paul this weekend. The kids were busy coloring and looking at the Christmas village when we heard a little “mew” from the sliding door.

This little fella was outside, shivering and trying to get attention.

After going back and forth on what to do with him, my mom and I hopped in the car and headed around the corner to ask a neighbor if she was missing a cat. She wasn’t. My mom then called a friend who was involved with a pet rescue, amazingly she said she could get a home for him if we could catch him.
PC177322sm

Armed with meatloaf and Paul’s gloves, I headed outside and coaxed the little guy out from under the deck. I missed him the first time I tried to grab him, but was successful the second. My mom helped get him in a cardboard box and we brought him inside.

Warm, fed and ready to go to a new family for Christmas!
PC177335sm

After THAT adventure, we got down to the business of dinner and presents!
PC177331sm

The kids loved playing with the real cameras too.

Cassidy still loves her duckies!

Spring time!

by Heather | 0 comments

Taking a break from sharing our Hawaii trip, there are still so many more photos to go through!

Before we left, we had the chance to go to Bristol’s open house. It’s a lawn and garden center that holds a spring event every year for families. The kids loved it, I thought it was pretty cute too. There was a bounce house, crafts, animals and of course all the cool plants and flowers to look at.
