This is Andy’s first year hunting (bow and shotgun). Poor guy, every time he went out he saw something but things just never worked out in his favor. Either the deer was too far away, bad timing, he wasn’t ready, the deer smelled him and bolted off…things just never quite worked out. Last weekend he went out again with a friend and it was Andy’s job to flush out deer while our friend was set up ready to shoot.

Before Andy could even start scaring the deer up, he heard gunfire. Our friend had seen a big doe and took the shot. Andy learned how to gut her and is confident enough to be able to do it himself now. He actually wasn’t queasy at all, but I guess she smelled really bad. It was freezing out and she was nice and warm inside too. Ew, I know. The whole scene kind of reminds me of Han Solo and the tauntaun on Hoth. (nerd)

And I thought they smelled bad…on the outside…

Since our friend had already filled his tags (all 4 of them) he’s giving us the meat!

Also, did you know doe’s have udders? I always assumed they had rows of nipples like a cat or a dog, but it turns out they’re more like a cow in that regard. In case you really wanted to know!
