Happy 4 year anniversary baby, I love you! You put up with a lot of weirdness from me, but I love how different we are!

Andy and I met in college through a mutual friend from back home. We started talking through AIM (how very RIT, virtual relationship of us) and found out our houses were 5 minutes from each other and we actually knew a lot of the same people. He’d gone to a private school while I’d been in public so we’d never really crossed paths. He was also 3.5 years older than me so while he was away at college I was still in highschool – meaning we never met at the church our families went to either. Although he does remember seeing me sitting up front as the girl whose ears poked through her hair. Cute :) Actually when I worked at the Y, one of the little boys said I could be the fairy in Lord of the Rings with my pointy ears…but I digress…

We met in person a few weeks later, Andy had asked me out for coffee and to “show me the campus.” I was actually too busy to meet for a while and I think he thought I was blowing him off. He actually admitted later that he thought I saw through his “lame attempts of a creepy upper classman asking out a freshman.” I was actually too oblivious to notice he was asking me out in the first place ;-)

We hung out for a few months, doing things together as friends. I remember meeting his parents one weekend we went home to visit family. I began to realize I kind of liked him and that he was definitely into me. I wasn’t going to do anything about it though, call me old fashioned. I actually started praying about it, to figure out what I was supposed to do.

I’d never dated anyone in highschool. I was kind of nerdy, but also wasn’t going to go out with someone just to have someone to go out with. That train of thought never really appealed to me. So I wasn’t exactly sure what to do with Andy, go for it, or not? I remember walking to my car one day and heard God say “It’s ok.” Not some great spiritual revelation “Go outeth with thine future husband” or anything…just a simple “It’s cool, go for it.” Awesome!

One night in October we were at a hay ride with a group of friends and I remember it was freezing! I grabbed Andy’s hand and stuffed it in my coat pocket to keep warm, I think that was enough of a “sign” for him because on the drive home he asked me to be his girlfriend.

We dated October – August. And then in August before we headed back to school, he asked me to marry him. (The proposal can be a post for another day). I did start laughing at him though, giggly excitement I guess. He was kind of thrown by that, but I did eventually say yes :) We were engaged for a year before getting married on 7/8/06. And here we are four years later <3
