All by my big Heather self ;-) I remember doing it as a kid, we’d make jams, juices and jellies but it’s nothing I’ve attempted in my adult life. I was always interested, but far too intimidated by the multiple pots of boiling water, bubbling masses of fruit and pectin and the potential to give Andy and I botulism. Although I think you can only get botulism from canned meat, which I have no interest in doing.
I had so much fun though! It was a little nerve wracking at first, making sure everything was going along smoothly…but the end result is four beautiful jars of blueberry jam! I’m not sure how they taste, or if they’ll be too lumpy or too runny…but that’s besides the point!
Haha, I don’t know why it’s such a big deal…people have been doing this for decades before me. And they didn’t even get to throw it all in the dishwasher afterwards. Yay for canning though! If you’re interested, a friend has done a “Canning Basics” tutorial on her blog. I definitely recommend the Ball canning book she mentions too, there are a lot of fun things in there I want to try now :)
