Sister Day

by Heather | 0 comments

Danielle, Gabby, Kate and I all met in Lockport this past weekend for Sister Day and to celebrate Danielle’s birthday. We ended up doing the tour of western New York and first visited Cream and Sugar, a cute little cafe in Lockport.

We ended back at Andy’s parents house for dinner afterwards. They had even watched the kiddos we were out for the afternoon. Love these ladies, so happy I get to call you my sisters :)

A hiking we will go

by Heather | 0 comments

My birthday was Sunday (yay!) so we headed to Ontario County State Park in Naples for some hiking, picnicing and geocaching. Ben loved looking for all the little geocaching treasures and filled his pockets up with chestnuts and acorns along the way. I found them in the bottom of the washer the next day ;-) The park was really nice, hardly anyone was there. Lots of easy trails for Ben, gorgeous look outs and a really nice playground and picnic area. I had an impromptu photo shoot with the kiddos too (warning, there may be way too many in this post). We had a great time and it made for a perfect birthday afternoon.

Just keep running

by Heather | 0 comments

Two weekends ago I headed to Pittsburgh to run in a race with some of the girls from the Y. I went last year but was 7 months pregnant with Cassidy so I didn’t get to run. This year I was part of the marathon relay team that broke the 26.2 miles of the marathon up into 5 segments (mine was 4.7 miles). Some of the girls ran the half marathon (13.1 miles) too.

Our little team is called the YNots with the taglines “Y Not Run?” and “Running makes me hot.” The Y part comes from the fact that we all met at the YMCA doing exercise classes together. The taglines are snarky because honestly, we’re the biggest bunch of complainers and some of us hate running so we were trying to think of all the excuses NOT to run and then just go and do it anyway.

It was such a fun weekend, although we joked that we as moms needed to go run a marathon to actually get a girls’ weekend away ;-) One of the girl’s sons had left a Batman figure at someone’s house and she brought it on the trip to return it. Poor Batman ended up being our token male, appearing at various segments of the trip. He even ran the relay with us and was passed from one team member to the next at different checkpoints.

Sorry, you just get everyone’s cell phone pics, but this is the weekend in a blur!

By the way, I signed up for my first half marathon in October…ahhhhh!

Maple Season

by Heather | 1 Comment

We went to the grand opening of our friends’ maple sap shed this weekend. Chris and Melinda own Stoney Ridge Farms, about 10 minutes from our house.

Lots of people came out to support them. There were tours of their production equipment (you need to boil the water out of the sap to get syrup) and a pancake breakfast inside. They have around 3,200 trees tapped and Chris welded a lot of the equipment himself.

Outside there were tree tapping demonstrations and a presentation of the tools that are used.

Ben even got a turn, I was surprised how interested he was. It may have been the power tools…

Before we left, we headed out back to see the storage tank where all the sap is kept before it gets pumped inside to boil.

I think Ben was a little bummed that there weren’t any animals on this farm, but he had a ton of fun playing in the mud with his friend Easton.

And the tractors, the boys loved the tractors!

I wore Cassidy in my Ergo carrier the whole time. She was unfortunately bundled in Ben’s old snow suit so a few ladies thought she was a he. It’s hard being the second kid.

It was really neat to see all the family come out for our friends’ big day. Aunts, uncles, inlaws, brothers…all these people we’ve met at weddings and birthday parties were out helping. This is one of Chris’ brothers and his girlfriend.

Chris and Melinda, you guys rock! Thanks for sharing your maple farm with us!

They’re holding an open house again next weekend too, check out their website for more info!

Shrek!

by Heather | 0 comments

When we were home visiting family a few weekends ago, I got to sit in on the dress rehearsal for Shrek. Andy’s dad volunteers at the Palace Theatre building sets and he took me to see one of the show’s run throughs. It was only dress rehearsal, but I enjoyed it so much! The production was very well done, actors and sets were pretty impressive. We only stayed for about 3/4 of it before I got a text from Andy that said Cassidy had been screaming for 20 minutes. Duty calls I suppose. This is the last weekend for the musical and I think all the tickets are sold out!
