Benisms

We were watching a slideshow of pictures and one came up of Paul holding Ben when he was a newborn. I said “that’s you when you were a baby.” Ben said “Ben not a baby, I’m a big brother!”

He called a guinea pig a “kitty pig”

He started singing “Jesus loves the little poopies” one day

One afternoon he came in the kitchen and said his tummy had a boo boo. We hadn’t had a snack that day and he was hungry, too cute.

Me: I’m making banana bread do you want to help
Ben: No
Hey, at least he’s honest :)

One morning while we were getting dressed he exclaimed “Mommy I don’t like pants”

Me (after cleaning Ben’s poopy bedtime diaper): You could have gone poop on the potty you know
Ben: No, pooping on potty is yucky

When he says something is delicious he calls it “Wicious”

Ben to me: I’m the big brother. Cassidy is the little sister. And you’re the big mommy.

When Andy went out on opening day for bow hunting, Ben was convinced “Daddy is feeding deer on the farm”

Ben noticed Colby and Jack’s faces never really change expressions and we had the following conversation:
Ben: Is Colby mad?
Me: No
Ben: Is Colby angry?
Me: No. (beginning to understand why he was asking that) Kitties faces don’t really change.
Ben: Oh, okay.

Me: Can you go throw this in the garbage for me?
Ben: Not right now mommy, I’m twirling.

We also celebrated Ben’s birthday this weekend. I think he had a lot of fun, especially since he knew it was his day. Still have to go through those pics, will post in a bit.

Down on the farm

Labor Day Monday (you know, like a month ago) I headed to Lockport to spend the day with Gabby. We took the kids to Becker Farms! I remember going there on a few school field trips but hadn’t been in years. Ben had fun feeding and petting the animals, climbing on hay bales, going on a wagon ride, doing the duck water races and a ton of other activities. I think we were actually supposed to pay to get in, but didn’t realize it until after we’d left (since we’d come in a back entrance.) Oops. The rain held off until the very end of our adventure too, which was great because it poured.

Grapes of wrath

by Heather | 0 comments

Ok, worst post title ever. The book wasn’t even about grapes…anyway…we went grape picking last weekend! A vineyard about 30 minutes south of us had juice and upick grapes for sale so we bought some Aurora, Niagara and Moores Diamond juice along with Niagara grapes. I had no idea there were so many varieties or that wine is named after the type of grape it’s mostly made from. So a Riesling wine is made of mostly Riesling grapes. That one is actually way out of our budget at $17.95/gallon. The juice we got runs about $4-6 a gallon. Upick grapes were super cheap though, our Niagara grapes were .35/lb.

Ben had a ton of fun eating and picking. We strolled around the vineyard for a bit too and just enjoyed the little family outing. Next week we’ll return and pick up some Concord grape juice and Concord grapes.

Five Dollars

The girl who cuts my hair also does Ben’s whenever it’s getting too long. Last week I wondered how hard could this really be? I use the clippers to trim Andy’s hair and thought I could try the same thing for Ben. Big mistake! He did not want to sit still and freaked out that all the hair was sticking to him. He kept crying “Mommy I don’t like it.” To his credit, he did listen and stay in the chair the entire time. He survived, we had a bath after and everything was just fine. However I think I’ll just pay my hairdresser the $5 to cut his hair from now on.
