Thanksgiving 2018

by Heather | 0 comments

We spent this year’s Thanksgiving with my dad and Leslie at their new house. They’d been in Hawaii with the Air Force for the past three years so it was awesome to get to spend a holiday with them! They had quite a bit less snow than we did, but still had such pretty views out their backyard.

While we waited for more company, Cassidy kicked both Andy and Gabby’s butts at Disney Princess Memory. And they were seriously trying to win!

It also wouldn’t be a holiday without something failing in the house. This Thanksgiving it happened to be a severely clogged sink!
PB220102sm

The sink debacle would have to wait until later though, as more family arrived early afternoon. Sadie the dog was being SO helpful!

Lots of Lute family members joined us for the meal, which was neat because I hadn’t seen some aunts, uncles and cousins in a long time. And Ben and Cassidy hadn’t even met some of them.

We washed dishes in the bathroom sink and laundry tub. Memories?

Time for dessert.

My uncle Scott doesn’t like cats :D

After most family left, we just sat around and chatted with my dad and Leslie. There was some more coloring and Gabby commandeered our phones and gave us bitmojis. This 32 year old feels so with it now!

A movie and some chill time later that evening.

The next morning Cassidy talked Aunt Gabby into doing her makeup and braiding her hair! I think they both loved every minute of it!

Ben found so much joy and satisfaction in the Dyson vacuum and its 30 attachments. He may have started playing ghostbusters with it soon after this.

I’m so thankful we got to spend this Thanksgiving with my dad, Leslie and lots of Lutes!

Cassidy is 5

Haha, her birthday is in July so I suppose she’s almost 5.5 now! Crazy how fast we’ve gotten here. We had a nice family party at the house and I even made the Frozen cake (it’s not my calling, but Cassidy loved helping with it).

Lots of friends with lots of yard to play in, I love it. This was before Andy finished the Great Trench Drainage Project of 2018. We had trenches going to the pole barn with water and electric. Trenches diverting water from the neighboring field. Trenches bringing water from the sump pump, out to a bigger trench (previously the sump had dumped its contents under the deck). And trenches from the gutter down spouts. So many trenches.

Sweet summertime

by Heather | 0 comments

Apparently it’s winter! We have 2-3″ of snow and are expecting another 5-10″ tonight! I’m so far behind on photos though, that I’m just getting to some from over summer vacation. We met my mom at a playground/splash pad for a picnic in August :)

Happy birthday Gabby

by Heather | 1 Comment

This past weekend Leslie put together a surprise birthday party for Gabby. I was able to come in with the kids to help celebrate and we even spent the night at my dad and Leslie’s new house. It’s so nice having them back on the East coast (even though they do split their time between Western NY and Pittsburgh).

It rained on the drive in (which is only about 1.5 hours) but turned into a beautiful evening. The gardens at their new house are gorgeous!

PreK gradution

by Heather | 0 comments

Cassidy graduated from PreK (and is officially registered for Kindergarten!) The ceremony the teachers and kids put together was super sweet. It was a really nice morning of songs, skits and snacks!

My mom, Andy’s parents and even Leslie (who is back from Hawaii) were able to join us. I snuck Ben out of school for the day too! He’d gone to St. John’s so he knew the teachers and staff and was excited to be a part of Cassidy’s big day.

Forever grateful for the impact this place had on both my kids. Starting their school years out right!

Mother’s Day

by Heather | 0 comments

Today we met my mom, Paul, Kate, Brielle and Elloree at Kelkenberg Farm in Clarence. I was doing updates on their website and saw they hosted a Mother’s Day event. I told Andy *that’s* what I wanted to do for Mother’s Day :)
P5138425sm

We met Charlene the owner for the first time too (we had never met her in person before).
P5138310sm

Our first activity was the wagon hay ride.
P5138309sm

We rode around the farm, through the woods and even past a cemetery. It was here Cassidy exclaimed “That’s where zombies live!”
P5138328sm

Handsome fellas!
P5138345sm

Next, the kids picked their favorite colors and got to make jump ropes.
P5138355sm

Ben took his job very seriously.
P5138357sm

Then there were the ducky races!
P5138366sm

The gentlemen (minus Justin who had to work).
P5138416sm

Brielle and Nonna watched the kids make their jump ropes.
P5138359sm

Elloree snuggled with Kate for a bit.
P5138297sm

Cutest matching ladies!
P5138302sm

We headed into the barn to meet some of the animals. Kelkenberg farm makes their own honey and these were some of their bees. I’m so fascinated by the intricacies of bees, but it’s definitely too time consuming a hobby for me right now.
P5138376sm

Bunnies!
P5138444sm

Cute little baby.
P5138369sm

Fuzzy poof.
P5138374sm

Baby whose mama is a dairy cow on the farm.
P5138381sm

These two farm dogs were the sweetest. The white one had flopped over to get belly rubs from kids and the black one trotted over to say hello too.
P5138364sm

Surprise, Ben found a cat…
P5138371sm

Love my little beasties :)
P5138391sm

We saw some turkeys in the next barn.
P5138395sm

The tom enjoyed strutting about.
P5138397sm

Elloree kept saying “Turkey!” It was really cute.
P5138400sm

There was a huge sandbox the kids could play in too.
P5138406sm

And then they each got a pony ride.
P5138409sm

Ben was a little unsure (his equine interactions can be counted on one hand).
P5138418sm

Thanks for the photo, Paul!
32430422sm

We had a delicious picnic lunch including “Kelkenburgers” made from their own angus beef.
P5138427sm

Kids exploring the cracked corn after lunch.
P5138452sm

And then lawn games before we headed home.
P5138436sm

Fun with Poppy.
P5138437sm

I’m so glad Paul got this photo too, I didn’t get any others with myself and the kids. It was such a fun morning spent with my people, I’m so happy it worked out!

Happy Mother’s Day. Humbled I get to be called “mama” by Ben and Cassidy. Thankful I could share the day with my mom! Missing my step mom Leslie and mother in law Judy this year. Overall it was such a lovely day :)
