Happy New Year

by Heather | 0 comments

A few friends filled this out so I figured I would too :)

01. Where did you begin 2012?
Watching movies with Andy on the couch.

02. What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before?
Ran my first 5k! Took a calligraphy class. Bought a smart phone. Became a matchmaker for friends (2 for 2 baby!)

03. What was your status by Valentine’s Day?
Happily married.

04. Were you in school (anytime this year)?
Nope.

05. How did you earn your money?
Working part time as a graphic designer/web designer.

06. Did you have to go to the hospital?
I didn’t, but in March Ben had surgery to remove a little lumpy under his eyebrow.

07. Did you have any encounters with the police?
Nope.

08. Where did you go on vacation?
I went to Boston with Andy when he had a work trip. Not so much a vacation as he was gone during the day and I worked from the hotel room, but we did have fun in the afternoon/evenings. Camping in the Adirondacks in July. We also visited my dad in Massachusetts for a week in September.

09. What did you purchase that was over $1000?
My car! 2007 Ford Edge SEL. I <3 him! 10. Did you know anybody who got married? Yep. 11. Did you know anyone that passed away? Yeah, a few people :( 12. Did you know anyone who had a baby? A few friends did! 13. Did you move? Nope. 14. What concerts/shows did you go to? I don't think I saw any concerts this year. I did see my sister Danielle play Maria in The Sound of Music. 15. What TV shows were you watching? Burn Notice, Sherlock and Alias on Netflix. Also The Walking Dead and Revolution. 16. Are you registered to vote? Yes I am. I voted this year but was disappointed I didn't get a sticker ;-) 17. Where do you live now? In our little yellow ranch house. 18. Describe your birthday. I don't remember, haha. I guess 26 wasn't that exciting! 19. What’s one thing you thought you’d never do, but did in 2012? See question #2. 20. What has been your favorite moment? Oh goodness, I don't know. It's been fun watching Ben grow into a toddler! 21. What’s something you learned about yourself? I can do it. Whatever it is...lose baby weight, get physically stronger than I've ever been, work part time and still be mom, start reading books again. 22. Any new additions to your family? Kind of, although baby #2 won't actually be born until July 2013. 23. What was your best month? Maybe September when we visited my dad and Leslie in MA. It was cool to see my dad make the rank of Colonel. Andy and I had a few fun dates while family babysat Ben. 24. What was your worst month? I can't really pinpoint a terrible month. A few crummy things happened this year but I don't think any month was worse than another. 25. What music will you remember 2012 by? AC/DC. It sounds silly but every time Andy and I were on some adventure in the car together, one of their songs would come on the radio. 26. Who has been your best drinking buddy? Andy I suppose. 27. Made new friends? I've gotten to know a few of the ladies from the Y a bit better. 28. Lost friends? Yeah, drifted apart from a few people. 29. Favorite night out? Any date night with Andy is fun, we don't do them that often. 30. Compared to this time last year, are you: i. happier or sadder? Happier ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner soon to be much much fatter. iii. richer or poorer? Poorer, pretty much dumped the savings to buy our new car. 31. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? I think Thanksgiving this year was pretty memorable. We told family we were expecting #2 over dinner. The weather was gorgeous and Ben got to ride the gokart with Andy. It was just a ton of fun to hang out with family that weekend.

When Ben gets super excited, sometimes he chews on things. Not a problem if it’s a stuffed animal, but it becomes a problem when he tries to take a chunk out of your leg. It’s not aggressive biting, it’s “oh my gosh I have all this pent up energy and need to get it out right now.” Whenever he does it I always say “No! Ouch that hurts” and without fail, every single time, he gets a big lip quiver and bursts into tears. And then I have to try not to laugh, it’s hysterical. He’s such a sensitive little guy, I only think I’ve yelled at him once in his two years…most of the time a firm word is enough to make him stop whatever he’s doing (and sometimes even makes him cry).

We’re working on one of the bedrooms downstairs right now (pictures in another post). Basically, that room will become Andy’s lair of computers, oscilloscopes, circuit boards and capacitor & resistor storage. The man cave. Then the bedroom his stuff is currently in now, will become our bedroom. There are two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs, and we’re planning to move downstairs to take advantage of the bathroom we finished this year and have a little quiet adult space. This leaves two bedrooms upstairs, Ben’s and one that will be used for a future kiddo. I’m a little apprehensive about being on a different floor than kids, but it’s just the solution that will work best for this house.

Speaking of the house, I’m excited to see progress on the bedroom…but sometimes I get discouraged with all the work. I know it looks nice, and it’s an extreme improvement over what the house used to be. But at the same time sometimes I think it’s not even like we’re restoring an old period home that has character and class. It’s just a ranch house. We’re not really bringing anything back to its former glory, we’re just making a normal house that isn’t gross. And believe me, what we bought was kind of gross to start with ;-) That said, we have a house, we got a good price for the area, little bit of land and it isn’t a “boring” ranch. It does have character and a little bit of interesting architecture. And it’s ours.

We’ve been watching Burn Notice on Netflix and I’ve been having really weird dreams about espionage and smooth talking secret agents.

The other night over dinner, Andy and I were talking about what we did that day. I told him I’d run 4 miles at the Y. He said he walked to the bathroom from his cube. Way to go baby ;-)

Ben and I went on a Starbucks date today. I had coffee, he had a juice box (brought from home, because seriously I’m not paying $2 for one) and we shared a chunk of pumpkin bread. For the most part he’s pretty good in restaurants/public settings. I look forward to many more dates with my little man.

People keep asking what we want for Christmas and I’m struggling to come up with ideas. Remember when you were a kid and would circle all the toys you wanted? So much easier. Actually, if you must know this is what I really want. I’ve wanted one since I was 9. Seeing as nobody will plop down $1,000 for me though, I’ll just have to hope Andy comes up with some invention that makes him a millionaire one day.

I added some new songs to my exercise playlist and realized I have the most eclectic taste in music. Case in point, this is what’s currently on my phone:

Born This Way – Lady Gaga
Burn It Down – Linkin Park
Feel Again – OneRepublic
Party Rock Anthem – LMFAO
Supermassive Black Hole – Muse
California Girls – Katy Perry
It Happens – Sugarland
She’s Country – Jason Aldean
Give Me the Beat Boys – Bob Segar
Sideways – Dierks Bentley
What Makes You Beautiful – One Direction
More – Usher
I Got A Feeling – Black Eyed Peas
Just A Dream – Nelly
Backstreet’s Back – Backstreet Boys (shut up and stop laughing at me!)
Living on a Prayer – Bon Jovi
Halfway Gone – Lifehouse
One More Night – Maroon 5
Single Ladies – Beyonce

Little bit of country, hip hop, pop, rock and boy bands that should have stayed in the ’90s :) What are you listening to right now? What gets you moving? Anything I should try?

One of the things I love about fall is that some of our favorite tv shows start back up again. We aren’t in front of the tv every night, but we do record most things and watch them on the weekend. Some of our favorites are:

Parenthood
Grimm
Once Upon a Time
Bones
New Girl
The Office
Big Bang Theory
30 Rock
Downton Abbey

I’m also excited to watch Revolution, from JJ Abrams. We like his other work too and hopefully it’ll be a good replacement for LOST that ended a couple of years ago.

We don’t even have cable, but manage to get through just fine with over the air stations and Netflix! What are you watching this fall?

Yes, I have more Massachusetts posts coming…
