I started potty training with Ben. It’s not that I really want to (really, it’s just easier to take the 2 minutes to change a diaper). But he kept coming up to me telling me he’d pooped, so you kind of have to do something about that. I let him know he’s a good boy for telling me and we go clean up. We started sitting on the potty once or twice a day while reading books or singing and he’s peed a few times (and gotten chocolate chips for it). I don’t think we’ll be out of diapers any time soon, but who knows maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised!

We had friends over for dinner this weekend and Andy smoked a turkey in his smoker. It was AMAZING, the juiciest, tastiest turkey I’ve ever had. So good! I also might take applications for matchmaker because these friends are now dating :) I don’t think the turkey had anything to do with it though…

I went to a friend’s garage sale yesterday and bought a few clothes for Ben. She said she really didn’t sell as much as she’d wanted and needed to get rid of stuff, so she invited me back over today to just take more clothes for free. I got a bunch of 3t and 4t stuff for Ben. He’s a full 2t right now so I’m expecting we’ll be in 3t sometime this winter. The boy can eat!

I started running Wednesdays and Saturdays with some of the girls from the Y. Some good tunes, cool fall weather and beautiful trails…it’s fantastic. I don’t think I’ll ever be a marathoner but 3-4 miles feels really great afterwards. The human body is so cool, it’s fascinating to be able to work hard and see my body change, getting so much stronger. I guess I’m kind of slightly obsessed with exercising. There are some things that will never change (stretch marks) and I’ll never be a stick (not that I want to be)…but it’s so cool to have the power to actually change me. And I’m thankful for some wonderful ladies to do it along with.

Andy headed to Utah for work this week. I’m not entirely sure what he’s doing there, but it’s his first time on a work trip since Ben was born, so it’s a little weird. Hope he gets to do something fun there, but I’m not sure how “fun” Utah can be.

One of the things I love about fall is that some of our favorite tv shows start back up again. We aren’t in front of the tv every night, but we do record most things and watch them on the weekend. Some of our favorites are:

Parenthood
Grimm
Once Upon a Time
Bones
New Girl
The Office
Big Bang Theory
30 Rock
Downton Abbey

I’m also excited to watch Revolution, from JJ Abrams. We like his other work too and hopefully it’ll be a good replacement for LOST that ended a couple of years ago.

We don’t even have cable, but manage to get through just fine with over the air stations and Netflix! What are you watching this fall?

Yes, I have more Massachusetts posts coming…

I’m reading Charlotte Brontë’s “Jane Eyre” right now. It’s a fantastic story, but I’m reading it on my smart phone and it just feels so wrong to read classic literature that way.

Ben is obsessed with learning colors. Except, he asks “yellow?” for everything until he finally finds something that is yellow. So all day long I hear “Yewow? Yewow? Yewow? YEWOW!” It’s cute, for now. He actually pointed to the sky on our walk today and said “Boo sky” (blue sky). So he does know other colors, yellow just happens to be the favorite.

I sent a text to my friend Lisa tonight and got a reply “Sorry no hablo ingles.” Lisa is a spanish teacher, so I thought she was messing with me. Turns out, it actually wasn’t Lisa :-P I had an old phone number for her. Yeah, that was interesting…

Ben has woken up really early a few days this week. 6am early, which is very unusual for him. Both times he had explosive poops (you’re welcome for that visual). It all stayed contained in the diaper, but I told him he needs to stop having these early morning poos. When I walked into his room (after letting him whine for 10 or 15 minutes to see if he’d just go back to sleep) he said “Oh thank you mommy!” I had come to his rescue, how could I be annoyed?

We watched a really interesting movie on Netflix the other night, “The Jonses.” It’s rated R for good reasons, but was a poignant story on consumerism, marketing and keeping up with the Jonses. Sidenote, growing up my neighbors were actually the Jonses, a sweet older couple who are nothing like the family in the movie ;-)

I wasn’t on top of getting fruit this year, so sadly I missed out on strawberries and blueberries (my favorite). My neighbor down the road still had blackberries though, so I went and picked a bunch of them with a friend. They’re huge, beautiful berries! Last year they were even bigger though, literally the size of my thumb!

I don’t really “watch my weight” or monitor it obsessively. I’m happy with where I’m at right now, but this morning I saw a number I hadn’t seen since highschool. Sweet! I’ve been really giving my all in workouts lately, instead of half heartedly just going through the motions and trying to avoid the pain. Although, I haven’t run in a while and miss it. Mornings and nights are getting nice and cool now so I’m inspired to start again!

Speaking of the weather…is fall coming??? I love fall!

Thanks for sticking with me through the randomness of the post :)

The ugliest bunch you ever did see

I pulled some of the carrots from our garden today and they were quite ugly. I’m not sure what happened, but we’ve had a rough year with the garden between chipmunks, the weather and me not being on top of watering.

They cleaned up just fine though and are very tasty!

This weekend we went on a quadruple date with some friends. Dinosaur BBQ and a movie at the dollar theatre to see The Hunger Games. I thought they did a pretty good job with the movie, but of course I still like the book better. It was fun to compare how I saw things in my head to how it was represented on the screen. I may have done some matchmaking for a friend *smirks* so we’ll see if anything comes of that.

Ben is becoming increasingly talkative. I mean all.the.time. It’s really cute. And yet at the end of the day after he’s gone to bed, quiet time is wonderful too. He’s also becoming increasingly independent, opinionated and stubborn. Such a sweet boy, but he has his moments of toddler tantrums too. Of course, never for grandparents…always saves the testing for mom and dad ;-)

Andy cut the wood for the bookshelves in my office. He put a really pretty bevel on it called a Roman Ogee. I keep wanting to call it a Roman Orgy, but that is not correct, lol. My project for the week (who am I kidding, for this coming month…) is to sand, prime and paint the shelves so Andy can install them.

We hauled and stacked wood all last night. I am so sore but it’s a good ache. I listened to an audio book the whole time and Andy teased me. For some reason he finds the thought of listening to a recorded reading of a book, funny. This amusement may have come from the fact that the last recorded book I listened to was Twilight. Yes, I am 12.

I’ve finally broke the Dunkin Donuts iced coffee addiction and have started making myself a pitcher of coffee at night. Then I have ice cold coffee for a few days after and don’t have to buy anything. I even made coffee ice cubes per Danielle’s suggestion :)

Ben you’re 1 :) You say “ah dah” (all done), “dug” (dog), “kiiiiiiiii” (kitty, always squealed), mama, dada and nana. Although mama and dada probably aren’t real words, more just sounds. You have 5 teeth and numbers 6 and 7 … Continue reading
