I kind of like my Dell laptop…like…a lot. There are some neat functions of Windows 7 I’m enjoying and I’m starting to feel ok in the foreign country ;-)

Our town is widening the road in front of our house and adding a left turning lane. We met with the highway department today to discuss how it will affect our property. We’ll lose a little chunk of land up at the corner and two scraggly lilac trees, but are keeping all our big trees which is nice. Technically our property line is IN the road, so it’ll be kind of nice that the town will pay us for a little sliver because we can’t really use it anyway. Surveyors will be out in the next two months to give us an estimate of what the town will pay us and then actual work on the road begins next spring. We had been hoping they’d put a sidewalk in, but they’re not going to bring it to our end of the road. Instead they’re putting in a large 5 foot shoulder for bikers and pedestrians, which will still be nice for walks with the stroller.

Ben has been daytime potty trained since he was 2 years 3 months old. He’s pooped on the potty exactly three times since then. I just think he waits and then it gets uncomfortable which then reinforces the fact that pooping is a bad thing so he doesn’t want to go and waits more. Vicious cycle. Tonight he was sitting on the potty saying “Go away poop, go away!” He waits all day until his bedtime diaper and just poops in that. And then 5 minutes into bedtime I hear “Mommy I pooooooped, come clean my butt.” Lovely. I don’t really care, but it would be nice if he’d just go on the potty. Oh well, some day.

I did three family photoshoots a few weeks ago. I don’t even know how it happened, I wasn’t looking for photography work and then all of a sudden friends asked. I was a little nervous, but they all ended up being fun and I got some great shots I’ll share in a bit.

The kids go to a babysitter on Tuesdays now. They’ve been going since the beginning of October to the girl who cuts my hair. She has an in home daycare at her house and does an excellent job with the kids she watches. Ben really enjoys when the big kids get picked up on the bus in the morning and likes doing crafts and playing with the other little kids during the day. I’m not even sure Cassidy realizes I’m gone, but she does seem happy to see me when I pick them up later. I get so much design work done during the day too, it’s great. Wish grandparents were closer for free childcare, but I’m thankful for this too ;-)

I’ve started running again and am full force back at the Y. It took a little while to transition from always being aware I was growing a little person in me to now being able to give everything to a workout class. Some days I miss the modified pregnancy part, haha ;-) I do enjoy sweating along with the other ladies though.

It’s funny, before kids I wouldn’t dream about going in public without makeup and hair done. Not that I did makeup and hair for the Y, but it’s so nice to show up in the morning and everyone else is makeup less and poofy haired, ready to workout. I think overall having kids has made me want to impress people less. There’s a nice freedom to that.

Speaking of hair, mine is falling out. It’s kind of disgusting. There’s always hair monsters in the bottom of the shower and everywhere in the bathroom. It happened 3-4 months after I had Ben too so I was expecting it, just kind of not looking forward to it. I’m still taking prenatals, but the hormone fluctuation of being pregnant then not being pregnant is taking its toll. Oh well, guess that’s what volumizing mousse is for. I am 10lbs away from my prepregnancy weight though!

Cassidy’s getting so big, we’ve put her in the baby jumper (she can’t jump yet) and the bumbo seat already. She loves looking around and being right in the middle of daily activities.

Ben continues to have a little sweet spot for her and will bring her toys and books when the mood strikes. I let him hold her for the first time this week and he lit right up. He loves looking at her little fingers, trying to make her smile and petting her hair :)

The Great Pumpkin Party

by Heather | 0 comments

This year for Halloween Cassidy and Ben were Little Bo Peep and her sheep.

We visited a few neighbors after an early dinner. When they asked Ben what he was he said he was a “sheep costume.” Afterwards we headed to our old church for their Great Pumpkin Party event.

Ben’s cotton balls unrolled as the night went on, he started looking a little shaggy.

We were leaving a little cotton ball trail everywhere we went.

A few gratuitous shots of Miss Bo. I am so not into “frilly” but my goodness she was cute in her dress. I can’t believe little girls used to wear outfits like this all the time!

Big boy bed

by Heather | 0 comments

We moved Ben to his big boy bed last week, he loves it! We did have a toddler bed we could have put him in but figured he was huge in his crib he’d probably outgrow the toddler bed soon anyway. So straight to the twin bed we went!

Ben even dumped out all his tools to help Andy take apart the crib and reassemble it in Cassidy’s room.

We needed like one more inch to fit through the door but it just wasn’t going to make it so the boys had to take it apart to move it.

Cassidy’s pretty happy with her new digs too, she upgraded from the pack n play.

Ben is 3!

We had Ben’s birthday party almost two weeks ago, man I’m behind. It was a ton of fun though and neat to see him experience it and really understand that it was his special day. The theme was diggers and construction with an awesome birthday cake made by Aunt Becky. She even made dirt cups for us too :)

Ben’s 3 Year Stats
Sizes
Height – 36.5″ (30th percentile)
Weight – 33lbs (60th percentile) … apparently he’s short and fat, kidding!
Wears 3T clothes, but we’ve been in them for a long time and some shirts are starting to get a little short.

Sleep
We moved to the big boy bed! I’ll post more about it soon, but he loves it, so far so good. He still sleeps 7:30-7:30 every night and usually naps 1:30-3:30. Sometimes we don’t get a nap, but he’s pretty good with book/quiet time. He wears a diaper to bed because he sleeps so heavily and doesn’t wake up. He still has 5,000 buddies (stuffed animals) tucked in with him at night.

Eating
Still an amazing eater, I really couldn’t want anything more. Vegetables, meat, fruits, everything. He has started to whine “I don’t like it” if I cook something he’s used to a different way. The other night we had sauteed carrots and he complained that he wanted crunchy carrots to dip in ranch…but ended up eating them anyway. We stopped using a sippy cup at 2.5 years and he does great with a cup half full of milk. I’m thinking of having him start using real silverware too, the toddler plasticware almost seems to babyish for him now, funny.

Milestones/Other Things
He talk talk talk talks! Sometimes it’s still Yoda speak where he has backward sentences, but I can still understand what he’s saying. He has opinions and thoughts on everything, it’s very cute.

I have noticed ever since Cassidy was born he’s started testing limits a bit more. Nothing terrible, just little prompts to see what he can get away with. It’s exhausting keeping one step ahead of him and repeating myself all day though “thank you, please, how do we ask nicely, gentle please, try it first before asking mommy to do it, no thank you instead of shouting no” but I guess it just comes with the territory.

He is still super sweet with Cassidy and brings her toys to play with (sets them in her lap). He gets frustrated when she cries and tells me I need to feed her or hold her. Or asks if I can turn her off :) She watches him like a hawk and fixates on his voice a lot too. I hope she continues to adore her big brother!

Very sweet, smart, OCD about specific things and gentlemanly is how I’d describe Mr. Benjamin. Happy three years buddy!
