Busy, busy, busy

This weekend was b-e-a-utiful, 70s and sunny! It felt great to get so much outside work accomplished in March (instead of May). Andy and I tag teamed watching Ben and then both worked during his naps. Andy pushed Ben around on the power wheels he found at the dump (since Ben obviously isn’t old enough to push the pedal and steer by himself). The boy had a blast and kept saying “truck” the whole time. We also had our first bonfire of the season on Saturday night!

I took down Christmas lights from the lilac bush out front. They were so pretty sparkling in the sunshine! Andy took icicle lights off the house and found a random rusty screwdriver up on the roof.

Ben took a 3 hour nap Sunday afternoon and I was able to get so much weeding and flower bed cleaning done. I took a break at one point and wandered in the garage to find Andy making sparks. I’m still not entirely sure what he was doing…

I also planted more seeds for the garden (just indoors for now). The tomatoes I started a few weeks ago are already popping up.

The fan on my computer also died this weekend. Handy Andy came to the rescue. I don’t know if the tools in this picture actually had anything to do with the replacement of the fan, but this is how his desk looked afterwards. He just happened to have a comparable fan “in stock” and replaced mine with a little fiddling.

Finally, my mom visited Saturday afternoon and we went on a girls birthday date. My birthday isn’t actually until June 1 (I’ll be expecting cards then, haha, just kidding). But my mom and Paul are getting a puppy in a few weeks and won’t be able to leave home for more than a couple hours. We went out to lunch and then to the Clinique counter at the mall for my birthday present…big girl makeup. I was pampered and given some skin care and makeup tips. Now, I’m not really that into makeup and lipstick and dozens of eyeshadow colors, but it was so much fun to see what was right for my skin. It’s really nice stuff too, feels great when I’m wearing it and hopefully the cleanser and lotion will help protect my skin as I get older. Thanks mom, I had so much fun with you :)

And, random Benjamin picture…this is his new way to watch Sesame.

Kelley Bug

We lost our dog Kelley to cancer this week, she was 14. We adopted her a few years after we got our first dog Jessey. Jess was supposed to be my dog but ended up bonding with my mom. Kelley thankfully really did become my dog :) I remember picking her up from the Toronto airport and even with all she’d been through, we encountered a wiggly happy dog so excited to meet us.

Kelley was the goofy one. She’d bonk her head on things all the time and had such a happy go lucky demeanor about her. She wiggled and wagged with her whole body when we came home from school. She was so not a guard dog, she’d happily greet anyone who came to the house and make them feel welcome. Even non dog people seemed to warm up to her. She was so in tune with your emotions and would come right over and put her head on your lap when you were sad.

We’ll miss you Kelley! You were such a sweetheart :)

This weekend

This weekend we headed to Lockport to get our taxes done. Afterwards we spent the afternoon with my dad, Leslie and family. They’re moving to New Jersey next month when he takes a position at a new Air Force base. So we wanted to get as much time in with them as possible.

Chris showed my dad Angry Birds on Andy’s Xoom.

We had Mighty Taco for lunch but Leslie made us jambalaya for dinner. Ben’s favorite part of dinner was dessert, his very own chocolate chip cookie.

Macy was a very brave kitty this time and watched Ben from behind the couch. Her mommy Marilyn wasn’t quite as adventurous, we didn’t see her all day.

I also got to visit with my friend Allison who happened to be back in town. Her husband is stationed with the Army in Italy and she was back in the states to pick up their kitty.

Our house, in the middle of our street

My poor flowers are so confused. We haven’t had much of a winter and they’ve been trying to come up since January. It snowed again today but it’s supposed to be in the 60s this week. Poor confused flowers.

A huge branch came off one of our trees during the last wind storm we had. The storm was a few weeks ago and the branch is still sitting in our front lawn. Yes, we’re those neighbors.

But he’s so happy in the morning

I think Ben is cutting some more teeth (isn’t it endless). Andy says he’s been really PMS-ey lately. I tell him “but he’s so happy in the morning, you just happen to be at work.” And it’s true, Ben is usually quite chipper in the morning. When he wakes up is one of the favorite parts of my day.

You are 16 going on 17

This weekend my sister Danielle starred as Maria in her college’s The Sound of Music. Ben and I headed to Lockport Friday afternoon. We stayed with my stepmom Leslie and visited with family that night.

Saturday morning my mom picked Ben up to watch him for the rest of the weekend. Myself, Leslie, Gabby, Christopher, some friends and aunts and uncles all headed down to Mansfield to watch Danielle. I sat in the back of the minivan, I remember it being roomier when I was a kid :)

We headed to Danielle’s apartment to visit before the show. All of her adoring fans took up her livingroom and I hope we didn’t scare her roommates too much :) Danielle paid Gabby $1 to download some cat photo app on her iPhone and we all got a kick out of it.

Danielle is in her senior year at Mansfield and did an amazing job in the show. She can sing like you wouldn’t believe! And she made a gorgeous Maria.

We headed back to Lockport after the show Saturday night. Sunday, I went to my mom and Paul’s cottage on the lake to pick up Mr. Benjamin. He had a great time and I was SO thankful they were able to watch him (you know, it being such an inconvenience and all).

My little travel buddy did great the whole weekend (although he wasn’t too thrilled about the broccoli being served in the above picture)! And if you were wondering where Andy was in all of this…I couldn’t convince him seeing a musical would be a fun idea (even with Danielle as the lead). So he got himself a little man weekend, staying up until 3am with no consequences and finishing some projects he had laying around.
