Just a bunch of random things that have been going on around here…

We made pumpkin pie from scratch. I say “we” loosely because Andy is actually the one who got the crazy idea and pursued it. It was pretty impressive. He started with two pie pumpkins, cut them up, removed seeds, steamed them in the microwave, mashed them up, added spices and other ingredients and poured it all in a home made crust. It tasted pretty good, but he determined it’s really not worth it since it didn’t really taste any different than making pumpkin pie with canned pumpkin. Crazy boy :) What’s weirder is I love pumpkin pie now, but I’d always hated it as a kid.

Plans are set to head down to SC to visit my dad, Leslie and family next summer. We tried to pull things together for Christmas and go with my brother and his girlfriend but things just didn’t work out in the little time we had to plan everything. Last time we went down there we drove (14 hours, ugh) and we promised never to do that again. Unfortunately it’s much cheaper than flying, so it’s still up in the air (ha ha ha *cough*) how we’ll do it summer 2010 but we’ll see. Maybe we’ll have forgotten how painful it was to drive by then?

My freezer is officially stocked with venison now, I’m so excited! Cheap meat! While Andy didn’t get his license this year, friends of ours got a buck Saturday and asked if we’d like to split the meat with them. I teased them that “somebody” had to provide for the family since my husband obviously wasn’t ;-) He wasn’t able to get into the hunter safety class in time, but plans to sign up early next year. The bright side is he’s getting all the camo gear cheap at the end of season sales. We both have compound bows and target shoot in our back yard, but it’s taken him a few years to get up the nerve (or the interest) to start hunting. Me…I think I’ll just stick with target shooting.

This past Sunday we helped friends of ours move across town. They’re expecting their second kiddo in a few months and needed a bigger house. There were a ton of people helping and two vans tag teaming it back and forth between houses. It was quite the endeavor, we started at 9:30 and ended around 7:30. The house is beautiful though and there’s nothing they really have to do other than unpack…which they’ll be doing for a while ;-)
