It’s difficult to be thankful for the roof over your head when that roof leaks. Well it’s not the roof that’s the problem, it’s really a venting problem in the oh so awesome sunporch. So don’t let the last post fool you, I don’t like my house right now.

Turns out the soffit vents on the outside of the house have holes in them, which allow air to pass through and circulate in the ceiling of the sunporch. This was fine when it was a 3 seasons room and not heated. But now that it’s opened up to the living room and heated, cold air comes in through those vents and mixes with the warm air causing lots and lots of condensation that sits in insulation and 2x4s and drips down beams and makes a mess. Then in the outer corners of the room that condensation freezes, and melts, and freezes, and melts. We were so bummed when we realized what was going on.

Luckily Andy found out how to fix it and that’s his project for this week. We need to seal off those vents ASAP and then in the spring replace the soffits with unholed ones like those on the rest of the house. And we are thankful all this was discovered before he put the drywall up! So incredibly thankful. However all weekend I had a crummy attitude and kept mumbling “Buy a house they said! It’s an investment in your future they said! Bah humbug!”

I’m doing better now though ;-)
