I guess where else but a blog is an appropriate place to get out random ideas?
Andy fixed up a cheap laptop for my dad so he could do Skype with my step mom and family. He’s stationed full time in MA now while my step mom Leslie will be back and forth between Lockport (to take care of her mom) and their house in Massachusetts.
We formatted his iPod to work with the new PC laptop as well as Macs and I downloaded some of his songs. I’m kind of digging Alan Jackson singing old time hymns. Andy has no idea my secret liking of country music has gone this far…
When people ask where I’m originally from I say Buffalo, realizing nobody really knows where Lockport is. My step mom made a good point that I should say Niagara Falls instead of Buffalo. Lockport is technically closer and both are in Niagara County, where as Buffalo is in Erie County. She also said most people would go “Ooh Niagara Falls how cool!” Reality is, if you’re from the area we think most parts of Niagara Falls are…well, kind of scummy (except for the touristy areas). We think of Buffalo as where all the activity and higher grade entertainment is. It seems everyone else thinks of Buffalo as a blue collar, dirty city much like Detroit. Just kind of an interesting observation.
Part of the whole home demolition initiative that I enjoy is I get practically brand new rooms to design and decorate every year or so. Next ones up are the sunporch and nursery. Andy’s mom made the most awesome crib bedding with fabric that I picked out and I’m excited to set that all up. Once my office is out of there of course…all in good time. We’re certainly plugging along.
We had our first Childbirth class this week. I call them the “How not to kill your baby” class. When I first mentioned it to Andy that I signed us up for them through the hospital I got an eye roll, groan and a huff and puff. He said something along the lines of “What a waste of time. Women have been having babies for centuries without a dumb class.” I replied that that may be true but those women were also raised to take care of their 12 younger siblings and nieces/nephews/cousins so they had way more experience than the average woman today. Well…first class done and it was actually better than we thought. Learned a few things too (who’d of thought?)
