Fall weekend

This weekend we actually had nothing scheduled on the calendar *gasp* so we spent it at home doing a bunch of random things. Friday we picked over 100lbs of apples from our neighbor. They’re the epitome of organic I suppose, he doesn’t trim the trees or spray them…so they’re pretty darn ugly and some were wormy. They’re either McIntosh or Empire apples, we’re not quite sure. He normally just lets them drop and then mows over them so we’ve picked them for free the past few years and then thanked them with the goodies we make. Saturday we cored and processed most of them for cider, there’s still a little bit left to finish. I love freezing the cider and pulling jugs out during the year, so yummy!

Andy did a scrap metal run and made $70 on junk he’d collected from the dump (lawnmower decks, computer stuff and various other things). I’m thankful we don’t live in the country or there might be dead cars in my back yard just because he “might need a part” some day ;-) Yeah, we’d totally be one of those families…

I mowed the lawn (how exciting), sealed the grout in the sunporch and painted a bunch of floor, window and door trim for the room. I quilted too! I finished a bunch more blocks for a quilt I’m making for the sunporch. I notice I can do things a bit quicker now thanks to practicing, even if pieces don’t exactly line up quite right in the end. Andy did a few other random things around the house and did a big home depot run for supplies to finish up the sunporch. He’ll start nailing in the trim this week *happy dance*

To top it off we also had apple cinnamon pancakes for breakfast this morning (sans the worms) and grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner. Because really, what’s a fall weekend without those?
