Peas

Andy opened the freezer for some ice cream last night and I heard “Ew why is there barf in here?” I just laughed and said it was peas. I make Ben’s baby food, not because I’m some organic nazi mom…but because we have all the stuff in the house (peas, sweet potatoes, rice, plain oatmeal, bananas, apples) and it’s just cheaper. It just works for us and takes minimal effort on my part. Although I have to say I NEVER thought I’d be the mom who made her kid’s baby food. It just kind of happened, lol.

For the peas, I steamed them in the microwave with some water and then threw them in the blender. I only made a little bit this time because I’m not sure if he likes them yet and I’d hate to be stuck with 500 peacubes. If he does like them, I’ll make a bigger batch to keep in the freezer. If not, I’ll try again later, but there are so many other vegetables that it’s really not a big deal. We had these silicone ice cube trays that were kind of useless for liquids (just a poor design) but they work great for baby food!

Our pediatrician is totally on board with it, she’s the one who mentioned jarred baby foods are really just convenience items. The homemade stuff seems to be chunkier (I’d say stage 2 chunkiness vs the stage 1 puree) but he seems to be handling it just fine. And I’ll really only need to do it a few months before he’ll just start getting pieces of what we’re eating for dinner. Unless it’s pizza and wings, then Andy might not want to share ;-)

Threes

I finished the third block for my quilt class. I’m off by 1/4 of an inch on the right side of the center piece…but I really don’t feel like ripping it apart to fix it. It doesn’t bother me that much and the block is the right size so I think I’m just going to leave it.

B&Bs
Our 5th wedding anniversary is coming up in July and I was trying to think of something fun to do. I would love to go to Disney again (where we went for our honeymoon) but that’s not exactly in the budget. Instead, we’re getting a night at a B&B in the city while my mom and Paul watch Ben. My first overnight without the baby, I know, big news! It should be fun though, the B&B is near Park Ave and there are a bunch of fun places in the city we haven’t even explored yet. It’ll be our first time at a bed and breakfast too, I’m looking forward to it!
