This weekend I headed to Pittsburgh for the Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay.
The Y running ladies were doing the Half and Relay and I tagged along as photographer and cheerleader.
We first went to the Expo where some of the ladies picked up their race bags. The convention center was really pretty.
We walked around the city a bit.
And got pictures at the finish line the day before, which proved to be smart because it was shoulder to shoulder crowds the day of the race.
Somebody has a sense of humor.
They had started to set up for the race.
Saturday night we had a pasta dinner at one of the girls’ sister in law’s house. We all turned in to the hotel soon after that because it was going to be an early morning start.
A little coffee for Sue to get things started.
Julie helped pin on Jodi’s race numbers.
Group shot at 5am before we headed downtown for the race.
Julie and I dropped the rest of the girls off at their starting points, parked the cars and then set up camp around mile 9.
The first people to come through were handicapped racers.
These guys were the first runners we saw, they were insane. Look at the muscles!
We waited alongside the road for members of our team to come by.
Beth was the first of our half marathoners (13.1 miles) to come through.
Followed by Sue who was also running the half.
Lexi waiting at her relay check point.
Sarah was on the other side of the road running the relay. We caught her right before she handed off to the next relay runner.
Jodi doing the half came through next.
This little guy was cheering next to us.
He was waiting for his dad to run by.
The team after running, they look great!
Julie (on the left) is from Pittsburgh and was my tour guide and who I hung out with all day. There’s no way I could have navigated the city and gotten shots of the girls in the race without her.
Beth with her medal afterwards.
This was Heidi’s first race, she did great in the relay!
The medals looked really cool. Actually all the banners, advertising and designs for the race were really neat.
Jill and Lexi had to find their way across town to get to our meeting point from their relay check points. They look a little confused :)
Back of the team tshirts I designed (another post on that later).
We walked around the city a ton the day of the race. I didn’t even run, but was really pooped by the end.
One last group photo as we headed back to the cars.
The afternoon of the race, the girls did some yoga to wind down.
It was such a fun weekend and I’m glad to have been a part of it!
