…I’d like to be a middle school art teacher. Not any time soon, maybe someday when our kids (the ones we don’t even have yet) are in school themselves. And I like my current job, and can’t imagine having to dress up everyday either. Not to mention, we don’t have $ for me to go back to school to get certified as a NYS teacher.
But someday, seriously, middle school art teacher. Why middle school? Something about the awkwardness of that age really appeals to me, they’re also old enough to be independent and young enough to still be inquisitive and not talk back (too much). I also think the creative projects you could do with them would be more experimental and just more ‘fun’ than what you’d teach at the highschool level.
Anyway, what got me thinking about this were these two sites I stumbled on…lesson plans for art teachers. The projects on these pages look SO fun. Look here and here for the lessons. This one in particular I think so great, I said “wow” as I looked at it. The illustrations on it are great, and the use of negative space is way cool.
So I dunno, someday I think it’d be fun. I have no idea how one would take a degree and work history of graphic design and add to it a certified teaching degree but I suppose it’s nothing I have to worry about for a while. I’m sure I don’t understand all the work that goes into running a classroom either. Or the struggles, stresses and pressures in dealing with kids, their parents and administrators all at the same time.
