Canandaigua Wine Trail

Sunday we traveled the Canandaigua Wine Trail as part of my birthday weekend. Knowing little to nothing about wine – it was actually a lot of fun. The CWT is one of the smaller trails in the Finger Lakes region and was perfect for us to explore for the afternoon.

Since we’re wine “newbies” I really didn’t know what to expect, or even the “proper” way to do a tasting. People at wineries were great though, answering all our questions and made us feel very comfortable. In particular we had great conversations at Imagine Moore Winery and Casa Larga Vineyards. The NY Wine and Culinary Center in Canandaigua was pretty awesome as well, it’s a gorgeous place!

I was surprised we actually liked some more of the drier wines too, being newbies we tend towards sweeter ones. I really enjoyed learning how heavier red wines are meant to go with meats and chocolate (mmm, tasted really good with chocolate). And the whites complimented spicy cheeses and salmon appetizers.

On a side note, Andy said he started feeling the buzz after just one winery. It took me 3 or 4 before I really started to notice anything ;-)
