Busy, busy, busy

This weekend was b-e-a-utiful, 70s and sunny! It felt great to get so much outside work accomplished in March (instead of May). Andy and I tag teamed watching Ben and then both worked during his naps. Andy pushed Ben around on the power wheels he found at the dump (since Ben obviously isn’t old enough to push the pedal and steer by himself). The boy had a blast and kept saying “truck” the whole time. We also had our first bonfire of the season on Saturday night!

I took down Christmas lights from the lilac bush out front. They were so pretty sparkling in the sunshine! Andy took icicle lights off the house and found a random rusty screwdriver up on the roof.

Ben took a 3 hour nap Sunday afternoon and I was able to get so much weeding and flower bed cleaning done. I took a break at one point and wandered in the garage to find Andy making sparks. I’m still not entirely sure what he was doing…

I also planted more seeds for the garden (just indoors for now). The tomatoes I started a few weeks ago are already popping up.

The fan on my computer also died this weekend. Handy Andy came to the rescue. I don’t know if the tools in this picture actually had anything to do with the replacement of the fan, but this is how his desk looked afterwards. He just happened to have a comparable fan “in stock” and replaced mine with a little fiddling.

Finally, my mom visited Saturday afternoon and we went on a girls birthday date. My birthday isn’t actually until June 1 (I’ll be expecting cards then, haha, just kidding). But my mom and Paul are getting a puppy in a few weeks and won’t be able to leave home for more than a couple hours. We went out to lunch and then to the Clinique counter at the mall for my birthday present…big girl makeup. I was pampered and given some skin care and makeup tips. Now, I’m not really that into makeup and lipstick and dozens of eyeshadow colors, but it was so much fun to see what was right for my skin. It’s really nice stuff too, feels great when I’m wearing it and hopefully the cleanser and lotion will help protect my skin as I get older. Thanks mom, I had so much fun with you :)

And, random Benjamin picture…this is his new way to watch Sesame.

This weekend

This weekend we headed to Lockport to get our taxes done. Afterwards we spent the afternoon with my dad, Leslie and family. They’re moving to New Jersey next month when he takes a position at a new Air Force base. So we wanted to get as much time in with them as possible.

Chris showed my dad Angry Birds on Andy’s Xoom.

We had Mighty Taco for lunch but Leslie made us jambalaya for dinner. Ben’s favorite part of dinner was dessert, his very own chocolate chip cookie.

Macy was a very brave kitty this time and watched Ben from behind the couch. Her mommy Marilyn wasn’t quite as adventurous, we didn’t see her all day.

I also got to visit with my friend Allison who happened to be back in town. Her husband is stationed with the Army in Italy and she was back in the states to pick up their kitty.

This weekend my sister Danielle starred as Maria in her college’s The Sound of Music. Ben and I headed to Lockport Friday afternoon. We stayed with my stepmom Leslie and visited with family that night.

Saturday morning my mom picked Ben up to watch him for the rest of the weekend. Myself, Leslie, Gabby, Christopher, some friends and aunts and uncles all headed down to Mansfield to watch Danielle. I sat in the back of the minivan, I remember it being roomier when I was a kid :)

We headed to Danielle’s apartment to visit before the show. All of her adoring fans took up her livingroom and I hope we didn’t scare her roommates too much :) Danielle paid Gabby $1 to download some cat photo app on her iPhone and we all got a kick out of it.

Danielle is in her senior year at Mansfield and did an amazing job in the show. She can sing like you wouldn’t believe! And she made a gorgeous Maria.

We headed back to Lockport after the show Saturday night. Sunday, I went to my mom and Paul’s cottage on the lake to pick up Mr. Benjamin. He had a great time and I was SO thankful they were able to watch him (you know, it being such an inconvenience and all).

My little travel buddy did great the whole weekend (although he wasn’t too thrilled about the broccoli being served in the above picture)! And if you were wondering where Andy was in all of this…I couldn’t convince him seeing a musical would be a fun idea (even with Danielle as the lead). So he got himself a little man weekend, staying up until 3am with no consequences and finishing some projects he had laying around.

Fun times for all

Andy’s parents took Ben this weekend (after a white out snow storm delayed us a bit). Andy’s dad sent us a picture of their adventures.

One of the first things I did Saturday afternoon was clean out the fridge, scrubbing drawers and organizing food. Yes, I’m aware how lame this is :) This was the before shot, sorry no afters.

Saturday night, Andy and I went out to dinner.

Afterwards we wandered around a few stores (including the discount aisles at Walmart). Then we headed home for a movie on the couch.

Sunday morning we slept in (ahh, so nice). In the afternoon we headed a few towns over to visit some college friends and their two daughters. Then we met Andy’s parents and brother for dinner and the Ben swap.

Thanks so much guys!

***UPDATED AGAIN*** I saw Ben walk! He walked all the way across the kitchen in the Frankenstein type waddle, too cute :)

We got “pity meat” from the friend Andy hunts with. So now there’s ground, a few roasts and steaks in the freezer. Yay!

***UPDATED*** Andy went hunting this morning and saw some deer but nothing would have been a good shot. So we remain bambi-less this year.

And I also feel like I need to share Ben’s new word. When he was a newborn we swaddled him and started calling him “sausage” because he looked like a little stuffed sausage. Well, the nickname stuck and unfortunately it’s his new word. He goes around saying “saw-seg, saw-seg, saw-seg” :)

Ben walked on his own this week! I haven’t seen it yet, he did it for Andy one night while I was getting a hair cut. And then he did it again while I was downstairs doing laundry. And again for Andy when I was down working in the office…you get the picture ;-) Still waiting to see it!

I really want an iphone but can’t justify the cost of the data plan. I don’t really “go” anywhere so I don’t really need the phone, I’m usually always near my computer. Still, major cool factor!

I made yogurt in the crockpot this week! Ben eats it like crazy and it’s an expensive $3.50/carton for the whole milk stuff, so I found a recipe online. It turned out alright, a little runny. It was also a little tart, but mixed with fruit, Ben didn’t seem to mind. I used this recipe. I might try it again with a different recipe.

Hunting season is almost done for this year. Andy’s going out one last time tomorrow for late bow, hope he gets something. Poor guy hasn’t had a ton of luck!

Ben plays so well by himself while I’m making dinner!
