Baby Dedication

by Heather | 1 Comment

Last weekend we dedicated both Ben and Cassidy at our church. We don’t do baby baptisms, instead we did the dedication as a way of giving the kids back to God. Recognizing that they were gifted to us and are only “ours” for a short time before they head out to their own lives. They’re ours to love forever, but we only have a certain number of years to teach and influence them.

We got the chance to share a little bit about the kids, their personalities and what we see in them that points to their purposes in life. Pastors and other church members were able to pray over them and us and give words of wisdom. We also spoke about how we wanted to be intentional in our time with them, not just letting the day slide by…but intentionally finding moments to love on them and teach them.

The weekend started with family sleeping over at our house.

Our friends Matt and Grace dedicated their little girl too. They’re the ones whose daughter was born at 29 weeks and in the NICU. Baby Evie is doing great by the way :)

After church we had friends and family back to the house for lunch. Andy wasted no time changing back into a t-shirt ;-) Neither of us really enjoy dressing up, although I must say Cassidy looked stunning in her little purple dress. Andy’s mom made it for her, it is SO cute!

Football

We were invited to a friend’s house for the superbowl but just decided to stay home this year. We’ve had family here this weekend, the kids’ dedication at church and then more family back at the house for lunch and hanging out this afternoon. So we were beat. I’m glad we just stayed here and had a quiet night as a family. A few gems from the evening:

Me: There’s a football game on that we’re going to watch soon.
Ben: No thanks, I don’t like that. Let’s watch Jake and the pirates.

Then later into the game:

Ben: They’re fighting over the soccer ball!

Finally, this sweet little moment with Ben and Andy. Ben wanted to be a football player so he grabbed his nerf football and helmet and snuggled in with daddy. He was tiiiired!

Benisms

Cassidy spit up and Ben chimed in “No no Cassidy, we don’t spit. We only spit when we brush our teeth”

We walked through the automatic doors at Target, he looked at them and said “thank you!”

Ben was laying down on the bathroom floor and I was trying to put his night time diaper on him. He was being so silly and squirmy so I told him to “sit still” and he said “But mommy I’m not sitting I’m laying.”

I told him I had to go change my pants and he asked “You peed?” as if I’d had an accident.

He received a doctor kit for Christmas. Inside was a pretend blood pressure cuff that’s blue and now he asks if he can “check your blue pressure.”

Andy made us some french toast on a Saturday morning. Great, except he put something wrong in for the vanilla. We still can’t figure out what it was, slightly lemony with a hint of spice…definitely not vanilla. The french toast was gross, so I gave some of mine to Ben (he was gobbling it up) and threw the rest out. Just as Andy walked into the kitchen, Ben blurted “No mommy, don’t throw it in the garbage!” The kid gave me up!

Ben was looking for his play phone (one of our old cell phones) and was getting frustrated because he couldn’t find it. I told him to look under his barn because I thought one was there. He pulled out a dinosaur and said “Mommy, this is Spikey, I don’t think this is a phone.”
