Thankful

My boys treated me to a nice, low key Mother’s Day today. Andy made me breakfast and dinner and gave me a “Happy Mother’s Day from the Cat” card (which was hilarious). I actually received my “real” (part birthday) gift a few weeks ago, a super awesome blender/food processor. I joked that it’s kind of lame to ask for a household appliance for your birthday, but I was so sick of our blender not being able to chop ice or be even slightly useful. Andy actually found an industrial model like the ones used at Starbucks, on ebay. The guy selling it ironically lived in our town so Andy picked it up from him and saved on shipping. I LOVE it, it’s way more appliance that I could have ever hoped for.

This post isn’t about blenders though. Today I was thinking about all my friends who have been trying and waiting years to be called Mommy. And thinking of those who don’t have their mothers with them anymore. Today was about being thankful for my little buddy Benjamin and his baby sister we’ll meet soon. Thankful that I get to be their mommy and thankful that my mom, step mom and mother in law are a part of all our lives.

Ben got to eat ice cream on the living room floor for the first time today. Because, you know, part of my awesome Mother’s Day was spent watching Star Wars with my family :)

Playdate

Two of Ben’s friends came over to play this week. Easton who is 18 months and Casey who is 8 months.

All the trucks, diggers, race cars and toy robots got a lot of love that day. Ben made sure no one played with Bear, Moose and Peaches though ;-)

Benisms

March and April conversations with Ben. Some of these were on facebook, but I still wanted to put them on the blog anyway :)

We went for a trail walk and found a feather laying on the ground. Later on we saw geese sitting in the pond and Ben ran over to the water’s edge and shouted “Come back ducks! Feather!” as he tried to give them the feather back.

I keep telling him there’s a baby in my tummy. We were reading a story that had a baby sister in it and he said “Baby in tummy” as he pointed to my chest ;-) Oops!

We play “This little Piggy” with his toes sometimes. One day he said “This little piggy market. This little piggy eaten by a snake.”

Ben was being really pokey getting to the car one morning. I put a little pressure on his shoulder to move him forward and he turns around and says “No pushing!”

I gave him an apple with lunch. He ate it…core, stem and all while I was switching laundry.

Lately he’s gotten really possessive of certain things, most being funny and completely ridiculous:

“No no no that’s MY go potty!” – The dog nosed her way into the bathroom while he was going potty at my dad’s house

“No that’s MY eye” – as I was getting a sleepy out of his eye

“No that’s MY shirt” – as I poked his tummy and told him I liked the dinosaur on his shirt

“No that’s MY foot” – as I started to put his socks and shoes on

Massachusetts or bust

Last weekend I went to visit my dad, Leslie, Danielle and Chris in MA. Andy got to have a “work on the house and assorted garage projects” weekend while Gabby, Ben and I roadtripped. Gabby was great company for the 5 hour drive, Ben wasn’t too bad either (although we were required to sing the ABCs and Itsy Bitsy Spider one too many times).

I will not fall asleep, I will not fall asleep…

One of the adventures we had on Saturday was visiting a little square in the city of Springfield. There was a fun maze of trees and branches kids could play in.
IMG_7182sm

Next to the maze was a Dr. Seuss sculpture play area.

The figures were really cute!

Ben even found Peaches! You may know him as the Lorax, but Ben has this stuffed animal he calls Peaches. To be fair, he is peach colored and has a fuzzy peach like face. (I have no idea why he’s so expensive on amazon though, he was a $5 Kohls Cares book/stuffed animal combo).

The man himself.

We also had a picnic lunch at a local park.
IMG_7201sm

Where Ben did boy activities like throwing rocks into the water.

And my dad picked some flowers for Leslie. Aww :)
IMG_7218sm

It was such a perfect day spent with family!
IMG_7222sm

Back at the house, Ben got to “dwive Gwampa’s Corbette.” He was so excited!
IMG_7232sm

Ben also got to play with Legos for the first time. We have Duplo blocks, but Leslie pulled Christopher’s Legos up from the basement and he had a blast. In fact, he started asking for them when we got home, so it might be time to bring up my old Legos!
IMG_7172sm

Chris was there this weekend too, but I didn’t get any pictures of him. However we did meet his (supposedly the family’s) new dog, Sadie. Yeah, she’s totally his dog.
IMG_7178sm

She was such a sweetheart, but the laziest dog I’ve ever seen. Ben didn’t phase her. Their cat didn’t phase her. She even eats her meals laying down and sometimes doesn’t even finish. Such a lover though!

Saturday night we enjoyed kabobs on the grill and Ben played outside with my dad for a little bit.
IMG_7247sm

Sunday morning we went to church. Ben didn’t really sit still during the service (even with a bag full of activities) so we wandered my dad’s church for a little bit. We ended up making a game out of finding all the drinking fountains. Strangest activity ever, but sometimes you do what you have to.

Lovely ladies ready for church. By the way, for those of you wondering how Danielle is doing after her car accident…she’s doing great! Her blog gives a bit of an update from a month ago, but as of this weekend she’s getting around even better and can now start doing things without crutches. Amazing recovery from her car slipping on ice accident a few months ago.

And that’s all folks! Whirlwind weekend road trip, but it was a ton of fun!

“Dat’s my Preckle”

by Heather | 1 Comment

Ben has a little freckle on his shoulder. He just noticed it a few days ago and got all concerned that it was a boo boo. I told him it was a “freckle” and that mommy had freckles too. He started to call it his “pickle” then his “preckle.” Now we have to look for his preckle every morning before we get dressed :)

On the farm

by Heather | 0 comments

We went to Lollypop Farm with a friend and her two kiddos last week.
IMG_7069sm

We did the farm walk outside and saw cows.
IMG_7092sm

And horses.
IMG_7089sm

Ben liked watching them eat their “breakfast hay.”
IMG_7079sm

There were goats and sheep in the petting zoo area.
IMG_7101sm

Ben didn’t really care for them, they were really friendly and got right up in your space.
IMG_7103sm

He loved watching the ducks and geese, pigs, emus and llamas though.
IMG_7074sm

I think his favorite attraction was the giant cow statue.
IMG_7099sm

Later that afternoon I found Ben playing with his farm animals and barn. Too cute :)
