Sorry iMovie

I wanted to like you, I just got sick of jumping through hoops to get things to work. I’m going to use the program that Andy was using all along called Sony Vegas. So now you can watch the cuteness in HD. Didn’t seem to help the squeaky mommy noise though ;-)

Also, completely off topic…I bought fabric to make kitchen valances, but I’m kind of terrified of starting. It’s one thing piecing together squares and rectangles in a quilt, but this is a bit more involved. Of course I need to actually find time to sit down and do the project, that might be the first hurdle. I think it’s a shame the skill of sewing isn’t passed down from mother to daughter any more. Go figure my mom quilts, but it’s not something girls are expected to learn any more. I just feel like I’m lacking an honorable trade when I need Andy’s mom to sew buttons back on his shirts for me :)

The best part of wakin’ up

Is Benny in your cup. Or, something like that…

Waking Ben up is one of my favorite parts of the day though, he’s just so happy and smiley. Yes, he does smile! Please excuse the obnoxious mommy cooing below. In fact, it’s best viewed with the sound off :)

I’m learning how to use iMovie right now. Normally I rely on Andy to edit, convert and upload video with a different program. The turnaround time on that has been a month since he has a list 9 miles long, so I set out to do it myself. With Andy’s help (and this blog post) we figured out Roxio Toast would convert the HD video camera files into something iMovie would play nice with. Andy insists it’s silly there has to be that extra step and all apple products are garbage, but you can always ask him his opinion on all of that later.

So I’m fumbling around in the program and this is what came out. Very beginner, and I have to figure out why the video quality is awful…but I’m excited to learn more and hopefully put up some decent stuff!

Super Serious Sausage

Andy calls him “sausage” — I’m not sure why. I think it started when we were swaddling him and wrapping him up like a little sausage in casing. The name stuck though and now he’s “the sausage” among other names. My favorites are still “benny boo” and “the benny man.” He’s one serious dude, that’s for sure!

In the outfit Uncle Justin picked out! And Rockwell seemed like such a boy font.

Ben you sleep through the night from about 9pm-8am. We are SO spoiled and probably won’t get as lucky again, but we’re definitely enjoying it. We’re getting into a more predictable schedule now. I’m learning when I can get some work done (before you wake up and during naps). A morning nap between 10-11/12 is almost guaranteed while the afternoon nap is hit or miss.

Nursing for 3 months now and going strong. I dread the day I have to make real meals for you, right now dinner is served so easily! You take a bottle great too, although it is a little messy. You were nursing one morning and I sneezed, it startled you and you started to cry. I snuggled you a little to help calm you down and then we continued eating. Then I started giggling, because well, it was funny that you got so upset over a sneeze. You did not like being laughed at and started to cry again.

Cloth diapering is going great, no leaks or issues. The chore I dislike the most is cutting your nails, I’ve nipped you once and I felt horrible. You’re just so squirmy!

You gnaw on your hands all the time and occasionally reach for toys. Hands are still the best built in toys though.

Oh, and you’re moving out of 0-3 month clothes and starting to get into 3-6 month. I never played with dolls as a kid, but I get a kick out of dressing you up and putting real outfits on you. Little boy clothes are so cute!

Excerpts from a Cat’s Diary…
Day 983 of my captivity…

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a ‘good little hunter’ I am.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of ‘allergies.’ I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow — but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released – and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now…………….
