Rembrandt

My mom was cleaning out house and found these beauties. Except I don’t think Rembrandt did sculpture…or glitter…

Middle school project that dealt with opposites. Ain’t she perty?

Art AND poetry. I was 10 :)

There’s not much else to say…except this is one of the better school pictures of me…

Change of plans

We rejoined the Y yesterday ;-) While there were a lot of good reasons not to (mainly keeping a chunk of money in our pockets each month) there were a lot of things going against me as I tried to work out at home. Benjamin himself, hehe, babies cry and need to be picked up and loved. Rearranging the living room each morning to do step was getting really old. And since we heat our house with wood, the blazing fire Andy starts before he leaves for work was REALLY not helping the livingroom workout.

There was also the cabin fever:

(Please tell me you’ve seen Muppet Treasure Island!)

So I dropped Ben off at Child Watch this morning and had a nice, focused workout. Dropping him off was weird and surreal. There’s the whole “this is the first time you’re leaving him with strangers” thing, but even more so I remember being in Y babysitting while my mom exercised. I remember the graham cracker snacks, cardboard blocks that looked like bricks, play kitchen, cubbies of toys…

There was even a little girl there with an eye patch and big glasses, just like yours truly as a kid ;-)

And then there was the weirdness of having worked Y babysitting while I was in highschool. It was different dropping my kid off when I used to be the one there watching other people’s kids.

Ben did great though and I had an excellent work out. I’m definitely glad I didn’t wait any longer to rejoin!

Well hello there

For the past few months I’ve been looking to upgrade my camera. Last Christmas (2009) I bought the Canon Rebel XS and invested a lot of time in learning how to use it. It’s the lower end of the Canon DSLR line but I wanted more than just a point and shoot camera.

This Christmas I didn’t really ask for anything other than slippers and money towards a new camera lens. To everyone that chipped in for my lens, I hate to tell you I actually bought a whole new camera instead ;-) I’d been comparing two models and casually searching Craigslist to see if either of them came up and a really good deal popped up on the Canon T1i. I’m wary of buying computers/higher priced techy stuff used on Craigslist, but we met in a really busy coffee shop and the price was perfect. I guess he’s a Nikon guy and had asked for a specific Nikon lens for Christmas, but grandpa had gotten him a Canon camera instead. Uhm, thanks grandpa. No, seriously I wish people would give me gifts like that…but it wasn’t what he needed so he was selling it brand new in box with no clicks on it. Awesome!

So now I’m selling my Canon XS on craigslist (with the 18-55mm lens) if you know anyone who’s interested :) I’ve been contacted by a few of Rochester’s finest (no I will not drop my price by $250, no I will not deliver) but I’m sure the camera will have a new home soon. That money will go towards my new lens! And Andy’s birthday present :)

That post

You know the one where the new mom complains about her weight and how saggy she is. Ha, no just kidding, I try not to use the blog as a complaining platform ;-) There’s too much to be thankful for to complain, that just wouldn’t be cool. I will say I’m 10lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight and am starting to exercise again so I’m not worried about things. I did have to go buy a bunch of new shirts though…since I’m nursing all of my old shirts were hilariously too short ;-) I mean little 9 year old girl size too short! Pre-pregnancy jeans do fit although they look a little painted on, so I bought 2 new pairs to get me through until they fit again.

I’ve gone back and forth about joining the Y again. We’d been members for a few years and then canceled our membership at the end of my pregnancy because of the high blood pressure, I wasn’t supposed to do anything but sit on the couch. And I wouldn’t be going back for a few months after I had the baby anyway. But for $90 a month for the family membership, I just can’t justify it. They have a TON of fun family activities, the pool, rock climbing wall, adventure center for kids…but honestly, Ben doesn’t really do any of that stuff yet. So I think it’d be a waste unless we had more kids and they were older.

So I’m going to do this the old fashioned, no gym membership way. I’ve been doing aerobics with step and started running again (although there’s a bit more walking than running). Paired with eating a few less leftover Christmas cookies, I’m excited to get back to feeling like “me” again!

Children learn what they live

If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn

If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight

If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to feel shy

If a child lives with shame, he learns to feel guilty

If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient

If a child lives with encouragement, he learns confidence

If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate

If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice

If a child lives with security, he learns to have faith

If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself

If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, he learns to find love in the world

Taken from a wall plaque my mom found when she was cleaning house. It wasn’t exactly my style (very pink and 80s) so I didn’t want to hang it, but I liked what it had to say :)
