Family Weekend

by Heather | 0 comments

Last weekend we headed home for a quick family weekend. We went to Andy’s parents’ house first for lunch.

And riding the piggy with daddy. Yeah, he’s something special.

Did you notice anything different about Andy?

Brutus is gone! The sad thing is I didn’t even notice the morning he did it, I saw remnants of his beard in the garbage. He told the guys at work it’d be receiving death threats ;-) I think he looks really nice without it.

We had a really nice day with Andy’s mom, dad, Jared and Becky. Just relaxing and enjoying each others company. We also looked at old photo albums which was a lot of fun.

Sunday we went to my mom and Paul’s cottage on Lake Ontario. They’re having an addition put on so it was fun to walk around and get that tour. I love how they carried the architecture and old cottagey feel to the new bedroom, bath and laundry room they added.

My mom took such a cute picture of Paul with the kids.

Andy also helped Paul do “something” with their dump find TV.

Ben enjoyed playing on the tablet at their house too. He calls it the Brown Book because of the brown leather case.

That evening we went out to a surprise 50th birthday dinner for my mom.

Her birthday had actually been the weekend before and we wondered if she thought we’d forgotten about her…but a few family, friends and neighbors were there to celebrate.

There was a gorgeous cake!

Cassidy was a little unsure of all the people at first.

But she quickly warmed up and was passed around :)

Ben trotted around like he owned the place. He ate his food and my food.

Then mooched off other people too. Phil is my mom and Paul’s cottage neighbor, thanks for sharing your fries Phil!

I brought all these activities for Ben to do but he was happy to socialize with everyone, play hide and seek under the table and be an all around ham. He had fun and we were in an enclosed area so he wasn’t bothering anyone else in the restaurant. He sung Happy Birthday to my mom too, it was the sweetest thing.

Happy 50th mom, hope we were able to make you feel special!

Benisms

by Heather | 1 Comment

Seems like I just did one of these…so many Benisms!
———-
“Ew yuk, cassidy slimy with spit”

While getting Cassidy’s 6mo shots Ben asked the nurse if he could get them instead of her because it would hurt her and she would cry.

Ben was telling me about the colors of stop lights and he said “Yellow means be careful out there, OK”

He was telling everyone that came out of the Y to “be careful don’t slip on the ice”

While talking about Cassidy he said “I very very love her”

We were reading about how catepillars turn into butterflies. He saw the cocoon and asked “Is it poop?” I explained what it was and then he kept calling it a “raccoon” instead of a “cocoon”

Ben has been potty trained for a year and a half. In that time I think he’s pooped on the potty four times. He usually just saves it for his bedtime diaper (grrr). Well recently he’s been wanting to read his potty book again and tells me “Mommy when I poop on the potty I can have (insert whatever I’ve promised him).” Today I thought we were close again, he sat on the potty to pee and I knew he had to poop too. You see, when he has to poop he runs laps around the house grunting and screaming but still holding it in. It would be the most mortifying thing for company to see ;-) So I had him on the potty, he’d peed and was trying to get down and I was making him sit and wait for poop. He started screaming at me “No mommy! No poop! NEVER! I’ll never poop” OMG! In the battle of wills the three year old won, he got down and sure enough, later that night pooped in his overnight diaper. When I went in his room to change him he said with a maniacal grin “Mommy I pooped in my diaper, see” *hangs head* I give up.

Colby and Jack are so good with the kids. Sometimes they’ll trot away and other times they’ll stick around to get pet. Although Colby doesn’t look too thrilled in this picture, Cassidy loves him so ;-)

Much Ado About Nothing

by Heather | 0 comments

Some of my favorite baby videos we have of Ben are of him doing nothing. Not the birthday party ones, not the walking for the first time ones…just the ones of him playing. So I thought it was time we had one of Cassidy. She doesn’t roll over from back to front, so close but that arm gets in the way. She doesn’t crawl, but is also *this close* She just squeaks, smiles and chews on her toy for five glorious minutes :)

And yes, little girl clothes are the cutest!

I finally printed and added pictures of Cassidy around the house. When he woke up the next morning Ben immediately pointed out which pictures were missing and what new ones were in their place. I don’t even think Andy noticed all the pictures I changed.

We were playing with some of his farm animals and he exclaimed “Cows get milk from their butt!” I tried to explain about udders, I don’t think he really understood.

I let him squeeze a pear we’d bought and was trying to teach him that it was still really hard so it wasn’t ready to eat yet. Every 20 minutes for the rest of the day he asked if he could squeeze the pear to see if it was ready yet.

Lately he’s been stripping down to just his pants. I’m not really sure why because it’s still really cold out. The one day he did it and said “I like socks, I don’t like shirts. No shirts for me!”

While photo bombing Cassidy’s monthly pictures he put his hat on her head a little too hard and made her cry. He said “I’m sorry Cassidy” it was the sweetest thing.

I told him I needed to change my pants before we headed out for errands (sweatpants to jeans). He asked “Mommmy, are they wet?” as in, I’d had an accident.

Ben: I have to go to work today.
Me: Oh ok what are you going to do at work?
Ben: Fix things with daddy
*awwww*

We were playing a preschooler game on the tablet and it said “Good job!” and Ben replied “Thank you”

I asked Ben how his dinner was one night. He responded “It’s not that bad.” Gee, thanks.

One of the (many) times Cassidy was crying Ben asked “Cassidy crying, her poop stuck?”

He’s become a sneaky little one and if he doesn’t want to do something we’ve asked of him he says “I can’t hear you mommy.”
