Benisms

I put a tank top on Ben and he called it a “muscle shirt” — have no idea where he learned what those are.

We heard the ice cream truck music outside and Ben said “Mommy watch out! Ice cream truck coming!”

I told Ben we were going to Goodwill to look for a pair of swim trunks. He asked “Good Marcus?” He has two little friends named Will and Marcus at the Y :)

We were playing with Playdoh one afternoon and Ben was rolling up little balls. I asked him what they were and he said “Dinosaur eggs.” Then I asked what kind of dinosaur would hatch from them and he looked at me very seriously and said “A baby dinosaur.”

We were looking at one of Ben’s dinosaur books. I told him the name of one of the dinosaurs was “Anklyosaurus” and he asked “Stinkysaurus?”

Ben sneezed and said “Bless you me.”

We were eating lunch together and he held up his cup of milk and said “Chairs mommy.” It took me a minute to realize he’d meant “cheers” :)

He has a cute way of expressing time. Anything in the past is “last week” even if it happened the day before or months before. Anything that is going to happen in the future (like we’re going to go to a friend’s birthday party tomorrow or to grandma and grandpa’s house this weekend) is “in a couple of weeks.”

Anytime we finish a toilet paper or paper towel roll Ben gets super excited and claims it as his “telephonescope” (telescope).

He puts an extra syllable on the word bulldozer…so we have a “bulldozerozer”

Picnic!

We went to a picnic at a friend’s house this week. They have a beautiful woodsy property and the weather was perfect. Good food, good company, we had a great time :)

I’ve been on “maternity leave” the past few weeks. I put it in quotes because while I only work 10-15 hours a week, if I don’t work, I don’t get paid. No real vacations is the downside of freelancing. Don’t worry, the flexibility and being able to work from home certainly make up for it though. So, maternity leave. I’ve baked brownies during nap time, dusted and vacuumed the entire house (although it doesn’t look like it now), scrubbed the kitchen floor, set up my office again (after the room rearranging), watched a few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix (guilty pleasure) and mowed the lawn. Sometimes Cassidy naps during Ben’s nap and other times I’ll just be holding or nursing her (NOT while mowing the lawn). I feel like I’ve been living it up and enjoying nap time the past few weeks!

I have been going slightly batty without morning workouts. Cassidy is too little to take to Y babysitting (she needs to be 6 weeks) and I’m technically still not supposed to do any strenuous activity. Last week we headed to the Y though and I dropped Ben off to play with his friends in childwatch and wore Cassidy in the babycarrier while walking the treadmill. It.was.so.boring. I enjoyed showing her off to all the Y ladies and Ben needed to play with other kids, but my goodness, there is a reason I don’t do the treadmill. And I only burned like 100 calories, which were negated by the two oreos I had with lunch. Oh well, we’ll get back to sweatin’ to the oldies soon ;-)

New neighbors moved in behind us. We’ve been creeping on them and gathering intelligence. We are so lame. I did introduce myself to the son (who is 10-12ish) one night and I think I scared the crap out of him. He was wandering around the treeline that separates our properties and I think he thought I was coming out to yell at him ;-) He jumped and started to scurry away before he realized I was just saying hello. Haven’t met the parents though.

With all the bedroom rearranging I’ve been organizing like crazy and selling things on craigslist. The house finally turned a corner and I think there are more finished/livable spaces than not, so it feels really good to evaluate “Have I used this? Will I use this? Do I even have a spot for this?”

I’ve been loving the cooler weather we’ve been having. Windows open, no AC, lots of walks and playing outside (in jeans!)

Ben can reach the pedals in his Powerwheels now and it’s hysterical to watch him zoom around the back yard. We actually have two that Andy fixed, one is the hacked up remote control jeep that Andy can power and the other is a gator/tractor type one that Ben can drive. Too cute!

Our garden is mass producing cucumbers this year but nothing else really seems to be growing. All the tomatoes are still green and the peas gave us a few pods but nothing spectacular. Strawberries did really well in June, but other than that it’s been kind of disappointing. I don’t even like pickles, so I’ve just started giving cucumbers to people.

Little miss Cassidy is two and a half weeks old but it seems like she’s been around forever. She’s a pretty mellow baby so far, but is definitely happiest when being held or worn in my Ergo baby carrier (best baby purchase ever).

She’s nursing great, every 2-3 hours during the day and then I usually only have to get up once to feed her at night. Hopefully it keeps up because I never thought I’d get lucky with another great sleeper! We’re doing the same thing we did with Ben…swaddling, white noise and a somewhat consistent schedule and it seems to be working.

Her umbilical cord stump fell off after two weeks. Ben saw it fall out of her onsie and called it poop ;-) She’s gotten too big for newborn diapers and moved up to size 1 (she’s too small for our cloth diapers but hopefully we’ll get to use those soon). Still in newborn size clothes.

Also, I’ve embraced pink. And dresses :)
