Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I told you I’d write a post on nursing!
I think it’s really cool and enjoy it even though it’s a lot of work. I mean never before has my body done this and now bam, it works and I’m helping the little guy grow. I love the quiet time and bonding time with him, I almost feel bad that Andy doesn’t get to experience that kind of closeness with Ben. I’m feeding him around seven times a day. My day is split into three hour blocks of time from one feeding to the next and it takes me a half hour to feed him, so in that sense it kind of gets old. I also have to plan when I go out and come home in those three hour chunks too, mainly because I’m too chicken to nurse in public! I’ll admit it!
At first nursing was really awkward, I wasn’t sure what to do with me and what to do with him. Now it’s second nature, but I’m not sure I can balance him, get comfortable, be discreet and not have a wardrobe malfunction. I know there are nursing covers and blankets I can use, I just don’t feel talented enough to handle it all at the same time. Although I have to say today at church I did go to the nursing mother’s room to feed him. So that’s semi-public and a step in the right direction. I know, I know it’s totally natural and nothing to be ashamed of…so I’m getting there :)
It’s so convenient though! Totally free! And I don’t have to mix up formula or wash bottles all the time. I do pump and freeze sometimes so he can take a bottle. Andy’s fed him a few times and he does great with it, so I know he’s taken care of if we left him with a babysitter. (Ha, haven’t done that yet!) It’s definitely something that works for our family and I’m very thankful it’s been so easy!
