Busy, busy, busy

This weekend was b-e-a-utiful, 70s and sunny! It felt great to get so much outside work accomplished in March (instead of May). Andy and I tag teamed watching Ben and then both worked during his naps. Andy pushed Ben around on the power wheels he found at the dump (since Ben obviously isn’t old enough to push the pedal and steer by himself). The boy had a blast and kept saying “truck” the whole time. We also had our first bonfire of the season on Saturday night!

I took down Christmas lights from the lilac bush out front. They were so pretty sparkling in the sunshine! Andy took icicle lights off the house and found a random rusty screwdriver up on the roof.

Ben took a 3 hour nap Sunday afternoon and I was able to get so much weeding and flower bed cleaning done. I took a break at one point and wandered in the garage to find Andy making sparks. I’m still not entirely sure what he was doing…

I also planted more seeds for the garden (just indoors for now). The tomatoes I started a few weeks ago are already popping up.

The fan on my computer also died this weekend. Handy Andy came to the rescue. I don’t know if the tools in this picture actually had anything to do with the replacement of the fan, but this is how his desk looked afterwards. He just happened to have a comparable fan “in stock” and replaced mine with a little fiddling.

Finally, my mom visited Saturday afternoon and we went on a girls birthday date. My birthday isn’t actually until June 1 (I’ll be expecting cards then, haha, just kidding). But my mom and Paul are getting a puppy in a few weeks and won’t be able to leave home for more than a couple hours. We went out to lunch and then to the Clinique counter at the mall for my birthday present…big girl makeup. I was pampered and given some skin care and makeup tips. Now, I’m not really that into makeup and lipstick and dozens of eyeshadow colors, but it was so much fun to see what was right for my skin. It’s really nice stuff too, feels great when I’m wearing it and hopefully the cleanser and lotion will help protect my skin as I get older. Thanks mom, I had so much fun with you :)

And, random Benjamin picture…this is his new way to watch Sesame.

This weekend

This weekend we headed to Lockport to get our taxes done. Afterwards we spent the afternoon with my dad, Leslie and family. They’re moving to New Jersey next month when he takes a position at a new Air Force base. So we wanted to get as much time in with them as possible.

Chris showed my dad Angry Birds on Andy’s Xoom.

We had Mighty Taco for lunch but Leslie made us jambalaya for dinner. Ben’s favorite part of dinner was dessert, his very own chocolate chip cookie.

Macy was a very brave kitty this time and watched Ben from behind the couch. Her mommy Marilyn wasn’t quite as adventurous, we didn’t see her all day.

I also got to visit with my friend Allison who happened to be back in town. Her husband is stationed with the Army in Italy and she was back in the states to pick up their kitty.

Fun times for all

Andy’s parents took Ben this weekend (after a white out snow storm delayed us a bit). Andy’s dad sent us a picture of their adventures.

One of the first things I did Saturday afternoon was clean out the fridge, scrubbing drawers and organizing food. Yes, I’m aware how lame this is :) This was the before shot, sorry no afters.

Saturday night, Andy and I went out to dinner.

Afterwards we wandered around a few stores (including the discount aisles at Walmart). Then we headed home for a movie on the couch.

Sunday morning we slept in (ahh, so nice). In the afternoon we headed a few towns over to visit some college friends and their two daughters. Then we met Andy’s parents and brother for dinner and the Ben swap.

Thanks so much guys!

Moonshine

Andy set up his own distillery this afternoon.

Haha, just kidding. Our friend Aaron tapped his maple trees and gave us a bunch of the sap. Andy built an outdoor burner powered by propane to boil the gallons of sap into syrup. It’s much more efficient than trying to do it on the stove, which makes the house all humid and stinky. Aaron gave us the sap in our church parking lot this morning and one of our other friends said it looked like a moonshine distribution :) I’m excited for the syrup though! Andy tapped our silver maple but has seen hardly any sap from it, but we should get a few jars from this batch.

Reading Rainbow

Ben loves books! He looks at them during the day and will sit down and “read” to himself, pointing out pictures as he goes. Sometimes before bedtime he’ll pick out a few books from his shelf, waddle over to the nightstand and drop them off as his selections for the night. Reading time with daddy is the best!

The Beard Hat

I felt this particular birthday present deserved its own post. The beard hat. Andy saw these a few months ago and thought they were the funniest thing. Since I neither knit or crochet, Andy’s mom stepped in and made him one for his birthday. It’s hilarious and weird but so much fun.

Ben was very interested when I put it on.
