(picture coming soon)

Wow! You made it 1/2 a year with daddy and I as your parents :) You’ve turned into quite the snuggler, so sweet and squishy. Growing big, you’re 17lbs. You’re still drooling like crazy, I’m waiting for a tooth to appear but nothing yet! We started solid food last week and you aren’t a fan of rice cereal. However you LOVE bananas and oatmeal and couldn’t get enough of them. You tried grabbing the spoon and shoving it in your mouth and got very angry if I wasn’t fast enough.

You’ve taken to shrieking like a veloceraptor — it’s obnoxious but kind of cute. When you’re really happy you get this psycho grin and silly eyes that dart back and forth. It’s funny, but you look like a crazed lunatic :)

You LOVE the kitties and get so excited when they walk by. You start bouncing up and down and reaching for them and babbling something I’m assuming means “kitty” :) I think Jack finds you annoying because he scurries away, but Colby seems enamored with you and comes over and lets you pet him. Even though you mostly just grab his fur, he rolls over and gives you his tummy.

Naptime has started to become interesting. The past few months you’ve had no problem going right to sleep when I lay you down during the day. Lately though there’s been tears and mad kicking feet as soon as you realize what’s coming. Little stinker. I also had to take your crib bumpers off this week because during naptime you’d reach through and untie them! And then you chew on the strings and slobber them all up. It’s amazing you remembered exactly where they were in your crib and without fail you’d pull them out every nap time. They really just served as decoration anyway, but I was always having to retie them. Silly boy.

Finally, I hate to report Ben is not the smallest, cutest, awww worthy baby at the Y anymore. He’s been ousted by a set of 4 month old boy/girl twins. Don’t get me wrong, he still gets smiles and the ladies say he’s always a pleasure. But you can’t compete with quiet, serene twins when you’re a big slobbery monster :)

We are family

We went out for our first “family dinner” last night. We had a 20% off coupon for TGIFridays (which is 5 minutes away) so we figured we’d give it a try. If worse came to worse we could just get our food and come back home and people go out to eat with their babies all the time so we needed to stop being wimps :) Ben did great though! He happily munched on his little chewy ring the whole meal and got oohed and ahhed over by waitresses and people that passed by.

Since Ben can’t quite sit up yet, they brought out a highchair that apparently converted into a swing for infant carriers. We must have looked so silly because we couldn’t figure out how to make it a swing, so we just set his carrier on top (it was secured, don’t worry) and he seemed happy like that. All the newfangled gadgetry they have these days ;-)

I can’t say it was entirely relaxing as I was kind of antsy and waiting for him to start shrieking or something. But it was fun and I’m definitely glad we did it!

We went to Goodwill after (exciting family outing, I know) and I picked up some swimming trunks and a swim shirt for him. Size 12-18mo since he’s in 9mo clothes right now. I can use one of his cloth diapers (without the absorbent microfiber insert part) as a swim diaper, I’m so excited! Have you seen the price of Huggies swim diapers…ridiculous…they’re like $1 a diaper. We go swimming at a YMCA camp’s outdoor pool a lot during the summer so it’d add up quickly.

Summer can’t get here fast enough!

About time for updates :)

My goodness it’s been over a week since I posted. We’ve been busy but here are some updates for you, hope this makes up for it!

Maple Syrup
Meh, didn’t really turn out so great. I think we started too late in the season because it was very starchy tasting. We learned silver maples wouldn’t be as sweet as sugar maple, but I think we would have been ok if we started earlier. Andy found out what we collected was called Buddy Sap, because it was gathered while buds were starting to appear on trees. We do have a lot of syrup from the sap our friends gave us though. We’ll just have to try our tree earlier next year.

Quilt Class
I had my first Beginner Quilt class this past Saturday. I’m taking it with a few friends of mine and it seems promising. This is the block I worked on in class.

Garden
I started seeds a few weeks back and the lettuce is starting to come up already.

Andy’s parents gave us a few new plants and surprisingly they’re doing well. (Read, I haven’t killed them yet). The amaryllis bloomed a few days ago and it’s gorgeous.

The House
Since my mom and Paul are moving to their cottage they gave us a bunch of their furniture, including a “new” couch and loveseat. Jack enjoys it ;-) We were also lucky enough to have gotten a buffet, antique dresser, wicker chairs, an army trunk from WWII, cedar chest and all my old toys, books and legos. Andy’s parents helped us move everything…now we just need a place to put it all :) Right now most things are sitting in a pile in the unfinished family room downstairs.

Ben
Mr. Ben is doing well, I’ll save the real update for his 6 month post. Last week during bath time though, Andy discovered Ben likes to try and grab water being poured from his cup. So fun!

Sorry the picture is so grainy. I never use my flash and then completely forget it’s there for such low light shots. Ah well, got the moment anyway :)
