First Mommy’s Day

Actually, I kind of consider last year my first Mother’s Day ;-) But I suppose it’s my first Mother’s Day with Ben on the outside. Yesterday Andy surprised me with flowers and my mom and Paul visited for a bit (also with flowers).

Then today, Ben actually slept in until 8:30, so mama got to sleep in too! We went to the late service at church and then I went shopping by myself this afternoon. For clothes, not groceries :) My favorite part of the day though was this evening. We picked up some caramel frappuccinos and headed to Mendon Ponds Park for a few geocaches. It was so beautiful out, Andy wore Ben in the baby carrier and it was kind of just one of those perfect little family moments.

Oh! And today marks another important event. It’s the first time I garbage picked on my own, hehe. I pulled over to grab a wooden activity cube similar to this one. Andy was so proud!

Peas, Threes and B&Bs

Peas

img_7538sm

Andy opened the freezer for some ice cream last night and I heard “Ew why is there barf in here?” I just laughed and said it was peas. I make Ben’s baby food, not because I’m some organic nazi mom…but because we have all the stuff in the house (peas, sweet potatoes, rice, plain oatmeal, bananas, apples) and it’s just cheaper. It just works for us and takes minimal effort on my part. Although I have to say I NEVER thought I’d be the mom who made her kid’s baby food. It just kind of happened, lol.

For the peas, I steamed them in the microwave with some water and then threw them in the blender. I only made a little bit this time because I’m not sure if he likes them yet and I’d hate to be stuck with 500 peacubes. If he does like them, I’ll make a bigger batch to keep in the freezer. If not, I’ll try again later, but there are so many other vegetables that it’s really not a big deal. We had these silicone ice cube trays that were kind of useless for liquids (just a poor design) but they work great for baby food!

Our pediatrician is totally on board with it, she’s the one who mentioned jarred baby foods are really just convenience items. The homemade stuff seems to be chunkier (I’d say stage 2 chunkiness vs the stage 1 puree) but he seems to be handling it just fine. And I’ll really only need to do it a few months before he’ll just start getting pieces of what we’re eating for dinner. Unless it’s pizza and wings, then Andy might not want to share ;-)

Threes

I finished the third block for my quilt class. I’m off by 1/4 of an inch on the right side of the center piece…but I really don’t feel like ripping it apart to fix it. It doesn’t bother me that much and the block is the right size so I think I’m just going to leave it.

B&Bs
Our 5th wedding anniversary is coming up in July and I was trying to think of something fun to do. I would love to go to Disney again (where we went for our honeymoon) but that’s not exactly in the budget. Instead, we’re getting a night at a B&B in the city while my mom and Paul watch Ben. My first overnight without the baby, I know, big news! It should be fun though, the B&B is near Park Ave and there are a bunch of fun places in the city we haven’t even explored yet. It’ll be our first time at a bed and breakfast too, I’m looking forward to it!

Well said

With the news (and facebook, twitter, chats at the Y, etc) focusing on Osama Bin Laden the past few days…I’d been struggling to put into words how I felt about it. On the one hand, he was a monster who took innocent lives. He was also another human being though, and to delight in the death of another person isn’t right either. A friend from highschool (Michael N) said it this way and I completely agree:

When a person proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are incapable of coexisting with the rest of humanity, they must be removed from humanity. It is a necessary act, but to take joy in it is to give in to vengeance. Vengeance is a base urge fueled by the worst parts of human nature, disguised as the noblest justice. With that said, well done to all those in military service. I’m sorry you had to do it.

And he’s off!

Well, almost anyway. I wouldn’t exactly call it crawling, but he can certainly scootch himself along. He’ll also get up on his hands and knees and rock back and forth. Gotta love the sweet potato on his nose too.

Easter Sunday

img_7399sm

We headed to Andy’s parents’ house. There was much Ben loving by Grandma, Andy’s mom.

img_7401sm

Maybe a little too much Ben loving ;-)

img_7436sm

Grandma and Grandpa, my dad and Leslie, got in on the action too.

img_7408sm

Andy’s mom made a lamb cake, which he promptly beheaded and ate.

img_7444sm

Chris watched the Sabres game.

img_7440sm

Justin enjoyed it too, even though they lost.

Ben even ignored Gabby and Kate as he watched the game.

Finally, Ben spent some much needed man time with Grandpa, Andy’s dad.

And daddy too.

(There is no photo of Jared, Andy’s brother, because he’s a stink wad and never lets anyone take his picture)
