10 months

10 months with this little cutie! She’s so “with it” it’s adorable to see the light in her eyes. Whenever she does something that particularly pleases her (putting a toy into a bucket or catching a ball before it rolls away) she gleefully spins her little feet around in a circle. When I’m getting her dressed in the morning she gives me her leg for pants, I don’t even have to grab it. She says “uh oh” when something drops and “eye” (hi) when she waves. Cassidy’s also a screamer. Happy screams, frustrated screams, don’t ignore me screams…she communicates very well with those shrieks.

Still so so so close to crawling, but it seems like it’s taking her forever. To be fair she’s done “one” crawl. Really, I don’t mind and I know every kid develops at their own pace. She sits up, scoots, rolls, reaches and does all sorts of baby yoga moves…silly thing just can’t figure out the crawl mechanics.

She’s got 5 teeth and 3 more coming in (we’ve been having a rough time with the teething lately). She’s such a snuggler though, I don’t remember Ben ever being so snuggly. She also sucks on her bottom lip when she’s sleepy, it’s the cutest.

Benisms

Ben shared his Bear with one of the other little boys at the Y. When I picked the kids up from childwatch I told Ben “That was very nice of you to let Aiden play with Bear Bear.” Ben responded “I know.”

I told him I needed to go downstairs to get dressed after my shower (I was in a bathrobe). He responded “Me help?” Uhm, no thanks kiddo.

I told Ben I needed to feed Cassidy and he asked “With a bottle or with your things?” I just about died, too funny.

He was reading instructions on the headrest of his carseat and said in a very stern voice “This says sit down now!”

Andy brought our burgers and hot dogs in from the grill and Ben said “Cause hot dogs are kind of like meat.”

We were at the doctors getting our well visit shots and afterwards Ben said “Maybe next time I can get a nice shot.”

“I think I need a donut for my cough” – not much else you can say to that.

He was particularly annoyed with Cassidy one morning and complained “Moooommy Cassidy’s looking at my ear.”

Ben: Can I do playdoh now?
Me: OK, can we clean up your magnets first
Ben: Uhm how about you clean up my magnets and I’ll watch

Just keep running

Two weekends ago I headed to Pittsburgh to run in a race with some of the girls from the Y. I went last year but was 7 months pregnant with Cassidy so I didn’t get to run. This year I was part of the marathon relay team that broke the 26.2 miles of the marathon up into 5 segments (mine was 4.7 miles). Some of the girls ran the half marathon (13.1 miles) too.

Our little team is called the YNots with the taglines “Y Not Run?” and “Running makes me hot.” The Y part comes from the fact that we all met at the YMCA doing exercise classes together. The taglines are snarky because honestly, we’re the biggest bunch of complainers and some of us hate running so we were trying to think of all the excuses NOT to run and then just go and do it anyway.

It was such a fun weekend, although we joked that we as moms needed to go run a marathon to actually get a girls’ weekend away ;-) One of the girl’s sons had left a Batman figure at someone’s house and she brought it on the trip to return it. Poor Batman ended up being our token male, appearing at various segments of the trip. He even ran the relay with us and was passed from one team member to the next at different checkpoints.

Sorry, you just get everyone’s cell phone pics, but this is the weekend in a blur!

By the way, I signed up for my first half marathon in October…ahhhhh!

Lilac Festival

by Heather | 0 comments

Mother’s Day weekend was beautiful this year. We headed to the Lilac Festival on Saturday with Becky, Jared and Andy’s parents. There were only one or two trees actually with lilacs (a little disappointing) but all the other trees were in bloom and gorgeous.

We’ll just have to make do with cell phone pictures. Sometimes it’s just too much to bring the dslr while wearing cassidy and trying not to lose ben in crowds of people.

It was nice, something a little different, thing to do for Mother’s Day. We had a low key rest of the weekend, Andy made me breakfast and we had some friends over for lunch after church. Then we played outside and watched Star Wars. Low key is good.

Also, I’d posted this on facebook but just wanted to share here too:

Happy Mother’s Day to all my lady friends today…married, single, with children, waiting for children, having lost children (and having lost mothers)…we’ve all been influenced and loved by someone with a mothering spirit.

A SPECIAL happy Mother’s Day to my awesome mommy Shelley who raised me, my step mommy Leslie who joined my life later, my mommy in law Judy who let me marry her son and my church mommy Christine. You are some amazing, strong ladies and I love you <3

Happy Mother’s Day!

We had our first warm summer thunderstorm the other day so we went outside to play.
