Garden

It never fails, every year around this time I get this overwhelming urge to make a garden in our back yard. Now, I know absolutely nothing about gardening or how you’d even go about starting one. I can barely keep our house plants alive. And there are so many other things that need to get done around here, putting time and effort into a garden just seems silly.

So my imaginary garden would have potatoes, beans, carrots, corn, peas, tomatoes, lettuce, green peppers, and maybe a cucumber and an onion. The last two aren’t as popular in our house.

While I’m dreaming (and forgetting the work involved) I’d have some different apple trees back there, pear, cherry, plum and peach trees, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and a couple grape vines.

And then I get to thinking, next year we could freeze and mash up all these goodies as free baby food (minus the time and effort involved).

We do have a pretty good arrangement with a guy down the road though, he has 4 acres of beautiful orchards and gardens and we just pick over his extras for a few dollars. Not bad for him doing all the work. Plus our town has a Farmer’s Market that we frequent. Although there’s just something about bringing yummies to the table you worked on yourself.
